What are your takes for the 2021 season? Locks to win? Locks to lose? Toss-ups? Ceiling for wins? Floor for wins?

I'll go first:

Locks to win: Southeastern LA, North Texas, UTEP, UTSA, ODU, Charlotte, Southern Miss

Locks to lose: NC State

Toss-ups: Mississippi State, SMU, UAB, Rice

My thoughts:

- UTSA is my LOCK of the year, they were 4-0 in games decided by 3 points or less in 2020. The 7-5 record was a fraud.

- I lean loss to Mississippi State, but having studied them this week gives me a little hope.

- I don't think anyone knows what SMU will be. Dykes brings a "high powered" offense, but he does struggle to win games with QBs that don't have a ton of experience in year one in his system. He was 5-7 at Tech w/ Jenkins, 1-11 at Cal w/ Goff, 5-7 at SMU w/ Ben Hicks. The one exception was Shane Buechele at SMU in 2019, but he had 648 career attempts, was stepping down a level in competition. Mordecai has 70 pass attempts in his career, Preston Stone has 0. They will have a great run game. Athlon Sports ranks them #64 in the preseason.

- UAB is like watching paint dry on offense, it'll be a close low-scoring game.

- Last game of the regular season is always a tough one to get up for, especially in front of 250 fans. Hopefully a West Division title is on the line for Tech.

Ceiling for wins: 9
Floor for wins: 7
