Today we take a look at the wide receivers.
Although the team didn't have a 1,000 yard WR in 2019, the ability to spread the ball around to a number of guys is what made this unit difficult to game plan for.
Key Returners: Adrian Hardy (RS SR), Isaiah Graham (RS SR), Cee Jay Powell (RS SR), Griffin Hebert (RS JR), Smoke Harris (RS SO)
Key Losses: Malik Stanley (40 catches, 649 yards, 3 TDs)
Projected Depth Chart:
OWR: Adrian Hardy, George Scott or Jawaun Johnson
IWR: Cee Jay Powell or Smoke Harris
IWR: Griffin Hebert, Jacob Adams (Will be the starting H-Back)
OWR: Isaiah Graham, Wayne Toussant
Other WRs on the roster: Jake Norris (RS SR), Zach Cousar (RS SR), Praise Okorie (SR), Tahj Magee (RS SO), Kyle Maxwell (RS FR), Joe Walker (RS FR), Doyle Adams (RS FR), Carson Rieder (RS FR), Tre Harris (TR FR), Christian McWilliams (TR FR)
I'm not 100% sure Cousar will try to play out his final season or not, but he's still listed on the roster.
Jake Norris, Joe Walker, Doyle Adams, and Carson Rieder are walk-ons.
In 2019, 9 guys saw at least 100 snaps. That includes the H-Back. So keep that in mind.
I would think those are the top 9 listed in the depth chart. Either George Scott or Jawaun Johnson is going to need to step up and provide a meaningful contribution.
John Allen and Trey Holtz will be the WRs coaches in 2020. Both guys will be in their 1st season at Louisiana Tech. Allen had some incredible results at ODU, he's known for really being able to develop players. Holtz spent 3 or 4 years at Ohio State, he's seen what it takes to be the best of the best. Now he'll get a chance to show that he can coach.
From 1-10, how confident are you in the WR Room? Can Hardy get back to his #1 WR form?
Me personally, I have this group at an 8. I think Hardy has a huge year, and Smoke breaks out.
