David Blackwell interview on SportsTalk 97.7 FM this afternoon:
- Larry Coyer & Paul Rhodes are two of his biggest influences in football, still talks to Coyer 1-2 times a week.
- On being at Jacksonville State in his past, believes they'll be wildly successful. They'll draw 20-22K a game. All in on football, do good at avoiding Bama/Auburn. Recently did 40 mil in renovations to the stadium. Lots of talent in that area of the country. Top 5-10 teams in FCS would be successful in any G5 conference.
- One of those games Friday night, we turned it over 5 times. We gave up 3 big plays on defense that really hurt us. Will Hall saw a problem, he tried to fix it the best he could with the wildcat. We anticipated they would do it again because they had stayed in the UTSA game with it the previous week. They had a good blueprint. Against us they played all 12 personnel, which we hadn't practiced against because they hadn't shown that against UTSA. They ran very little against us that they ran against UTSA.
- The 3 passing TDs were a killer. Just didn't execute in the secondary.
- When you create 3 takeaways you should win. We have played well in stretches this year, but we make huge mistakes 5-6 plays a game. Didn't finish drives on offense, big turning point was the fumble at the 9 yard line, changed a lot of momentum.
- Been a very frustrating year as a team, haven't been able to put it all together as a team all year. Can't ever put all 3 phases together in the same game.
- Trey Baldwin, Ezekiel Barnett and Willie Baker playing their final game, seniors in general, they all play with great effort. Zeke has had an amazing journey, Trey is having his best season. Been banged up all year, had a cast on wrist last 7-8 weeks. Willie has been battling a lot throughout his career, tremendous attitude. They all handle themselves extremely well off the field.
