Erik Link was brought in the day before fall camp started in August to be Tech’s special teams coach. I know some of you weren’t satisfied, but I thought as a whole, special teams were better in 2018 than they were in 2017.

2018 Special Teams Statistics:

Kicking:

Davan Dyer: 61 punts, 41.1 yards per punt, long of 66, 4 touchbacks, 21 fair catches, 25 inside the 20, 6 punts of 50+ yards, and 1 blocked

Brady Farlow: 5 punts, 35.8 yards per punt, long of 55, 0 touchbacks, 1 fair catch, 3 inside the 20, 1 punt of 50+ yards, and 0 blocked

Bailey Hale: 15/22 (68%), 1/1 inside 20 yards, 9/10 from 20-29 yards, 2/3 from 30-39 yards, 3/7 from 40-49 yards, 0/1 from 50+ yards, long of 46, 65 kickoffs, 55.5 yard average, 10 touchbacks, and 2 kickoffs out of bounds

Returns:

Teddy Veal: 6 punt returns, 30 fair catches, 12.3 yards per return, long of 22

Cee Jay Powell: 2 punt returns, 3 fair catches, 4 yards per return, long of 12

Smoke Harris: 1 punt return, -3 yards per return, 6 kickoff return, 19.5 yards per return, long of 36

Michael Sam: 9 kickoff returns, 21.3 yards per return, long of 43

Praise Okorie: 7 kickoff returns, 18.6 yards per return, long of 33

Jaqwis Dancy: 2 kickoff returns, 18.5 yards per return, long of 21

Alfred Smith: 1 kickoff return, 15 yards per return, long of 15

*The longest kickoff return that Tech allowed this year was 48 yards on the very first kickoff of the season against South Alabama.

*The longest punt return that Tech allowed this year was 27 yards against Mississippi State.

*For the season, Tech earned a 76.6 PFF grade on special teams.
