Huge game in Denton tonight.
Tipoff is at 7 PM on Stadium.
Is Tech a legit contender in the league? We'll find out tonight.
Tech has won 6 of its last 7 in league play.
Five Bulldogs are currently averaging double figures: Ledoux (11.7 ppg), Crawford (11.5 ppg), Archibald (10.7 ppg), Lofton Jr (10.1 ppg), and Pemberton (10.0 ppg).
Looking at North Texas, Grand McCasland has done a really nice job with the program. The Mean Green are 9-5 overall and 5-1 in league play.
It all revolves around Javion Hamlet, the reigning C-USA Player of the Year. He's averaging 13.9 points per game on 41% shooting. He's not a great outside shooter, only 32% from 3-point range. However, if Tech can't keep him out of the paint, it's going to be tough to win. He has a beautiful floater once he gets in the lane.
The Mean Green will run a lot of P&R at the top with Simmons, then they'll let Hamlet make decisions. Reese, Bell, and McBride can really shoot it from the outside. As a team, UNT is shooting 39% from 3. Really good outside shooting team.
North Texas doesn't play at a fast pace, can Tech speed them up some?
On the defensive end, UNT can really guard. They push everything to the baseline, which is why they are difficult to score against. Tech only scored 50 points against them in the first meeting in Ruston last season. Their "defensive style" is not something that is seen around the country, something to keep an eye on.
Should be a fun match-up.
