Ok, so just got done listening to BTB Radio and now I'm really excited about the season as now it really seems like football is finally here. As such, I thought I'd do a post on my expectations for this game against Southern.
Offensively, I expect Tech to be very plain. I figure we will see a health dose of Dixon crushing inferior CBs and LBs and should have a very healthy average, which I will put at 5.5 yards per carry and a total of about 150 yards. With the passing game, I am hoping to at least see 3 big plays with short throws. Right now, I am looking at a screen pass to Dixon that goes for about 30 and a TD, a screen pass to Carlos Henderson for about 50 yards (and maybe another TD), and then a Trent Taylor 20 yard reception on something like a slant route and he manhandles a LB/CB and has 3 guys finally drag him down. For the offensive line, I expect to see some issues, but mainly because I expect the Jaguars to load the box often on us, especially if Dixon tears them up early (also why I expect 2 large screen pass plays). If Driskel stays in 3 quarters (I'm predicting the starters stay in at least until halfway through the 3rd quarter), I could see him getting 300 yards easily. I am looking for him to have a 65% completion rate, which I know is a little high, but he will be running high percentage passes mostly and should be able to achieve 65% in my opinion.
Defensively, we will probably see much more excitement, in my opinion. I know Blake Baker comes from the Diaz style of play, and if we see the defense through a bunch of blitz at this team, it could get ugly for them real quick. As J. Ford talked about, our DL alone should be able to handle these guys by themselves, but imagine if we brought down even one blitzer. Several of our guys, if blocked man to man, should easily breakthrough. I could see their QB having nightmares about us for a long time. We should have the QB under pressure at least 50% of the time (with starters) and will probably see a lot of sacks and tackles for loss (I'm going to say 5 sacks and 3 tackles for loss). With our secondary, we should be able to handle the short passes just fine and I think we get at least 2 INTs considering all of the pressure the QB should be under. With that said, I could see them making some big plays on us and expect them to at least pull out 1 TD on our starters.
Overall, I'm going to say Tech wins 46-17.
(Once again, this is assuming our starters get 3 full quarters). Maybe I'm being too optimistic because I'm so hyped up. What do you all think?
