Off day #2 of fall camp is today. Off days will be on Sunday for the remainder of camp.
Few Notes from the last 3 practices:
- The offense really clicked on Saturday, they have a chance to be pretty dang good.
- Austin Kendall gets more comfortable by the day, I suspect he'll start getting more and more reps as the #1 guy going forward. That said, JD Head has been excellent throughout camp, there is noticeable improvement in his game since the spring.
- Five RBs are going to play. Dominique & Garner will likely be "role player" types. Williams, Henry-Brooks, and Dixon will carry a bulk of the load.
- The WRs were so impressive to me on Saturday. Smoke, Johnson, Emilus, and Lewis are really good after the catch. I'd say the spot of Graham and Means outside is still up for grabs. Neither guy has really stood out so far.
- Hankinson left the team, Mote has missed a couple of days. Hale, Gilbert, Bruno, and Gordon getting some really valuable reps. Bruno might be one of biggest surprises in camp, being here for the spring was HUGE. He's so much further along in the scheme than the ones that weren't. Guge preaches being a unit, if you don't buy in, you become a "Hankinson." It's pretty simple.
-The DL has been better on interior than I thought they'd be, will be interesting to see if they can sustain it. Kendzior was out on Saturday, allowed for Kershawn Fisher to get a few more reps.
- The LBs are just so good. They all compliment each other so well. Grubbs really starting to show some leadership, Baldwin is so quick. I wouldn't want to meet Fulp or Carabin in a hole. Carabin might be a tick quicker than Fulp is.
- Buchanan and Woods have locked down the top 2 CB spots. I have mentioned a lot about Elijah Hamilton's physicality a bunch, that's going to be a key for him. If you beat him off the line, he's not the fastest guy in the world.
- Jaiden Cole continues to hold down one of the top spots at safety, he tackled well on Saturday. I'll be keeping an eye on that position battle as camp really gets into the dog days this week.
- Punters need to be more consistent.
Top to bottom, most believe that this is the most talented team that Holtz has had. Is there a Ferguson, Williams, Taylor or Henderson? I don't think we'll know that until we see some live game action. Next two weeks will be big for the 2s and 3s, have to clean up some missed assignments and show that they are consistent enough to get meaningful reps.
