For the few masochist's like myself that will stay engaged with Tech football no matter what (will not necessarily always be in attendance, but will stay engaged), I recommend that we forget the rest of this season and cease the ad infinitum critiques of poor coaching that, while accurate, will have no impact, and instead turn our attention to an issue where we have an opportunity to have a greater long-term impact.

A meaningful, student-assessed fee for athletics is ESSENTIAL if Tech is to have ANY chance to develop a successful and sustainable football program. Currently, the chance of passage of a meaningful fee is very much in doubt.

I encourage every remaining "masochist" to become knowledgeable about, and active in, this process that may go to the students for a vote this Spring. During the FAU game, Dr. Guice sat in the student section to try to directly egage the handful of students in attendance.

I believe he should be encouraged to address the fissure that has developed with the fraternities by rolling-back the Hideaway Park decision. I believe that a portion of the athletic fee should go directly to student athletic facilities like lighted fields with artificial turf for soccer and other intramural and recreational sports. And, I believe a compelling presentation should be created (one that we could underwrite if necessary) that illustrates the potential for enhancing the student experience; perhaps by documenting the rise of the Boise program, for example, featuring various Boise football highlights and the effect that those events had on campus life and the game day experience based on interviews with actual Boise students.

Perhaps there are better ideas, but our input, expressed to all levels of the admin, (Brooks Hull, Dr. Guice, Jim King, TMc, others) may be the impetus needed to energize this effort. Our sports program is on economic life-support. A meaningful student fee for athletics is a critical necessity. For those still willing to help, this is the issue where you can make not just A difference, but ALL the difference.
