This thread is dedicated to scouting info on our game 1 football opponent Baylor. If you see good information about their team, stats, etc. please post it, but leave off items such as where to stay/eat in Waco, parking passes, etc (please start a new thread for that stuff).
Quick Review of Baylor 2019
Baylor (11-3) finished ranked #7 nationally and lost in the New Year's Day Sugar Bowl (26-14) vs #5 ranked Georgia (12-2). Third year starting Junior QB Charlie Brewer was knocked out of the game early in the 4th quarter to kill Baylor's second half game rally. The Bears narrowly missed playing in the National Championship playoff with a 23-30 overtime loss to Oklahoma in the Big12 Championship game.
Head Coach & Offensive Coordinator
Head Coach Matt Rhule moved on to become Head Coach of the NFL Carolina Panthers. Baylor then hired National Champion Defensive Coordinator Dave Aranda from LSU. The Offensive Coordinator (& QB coach) is Larry Fedora, the very well known UNC/USM head coach and Florida/OK St OC. Baylor will run a wide open, fast-paced offense. Their offense will be very much like Sonny Dyke's 80 offensive plays system.
Passing Game Coordinator
Jorge Munoz is passing game coordinator and wide receivers coach. Munoz joined the Baylor staff following two seasons (2018-19) as an offensive analyst at LSU, where he worked closely in tutoring Heisman Trophy winner and 2019 National Champion QB Joe Burrow.
Veteran QB
Leading the offense will be stud fourth year starting QB Charlie Brewer. He is very accurate and seasoned being Baylor's first four-year starter since JJ Joe (1990-93). Brewer has started 30 of their last 31 games ... 2020 Preseason All-Big 12 Fourth Team (Athlon, Phil Steele) ... 2020 Davey O’Brien Award Watch List ... 2020 Maxwell Award Watch List ... 2020 Manning Award Watch List ... 2020 Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award Watch List ... fourth player in BU history to throw for 6,000+ yards in his career ... Enters senior season with 18 career rushing TDs, putting him in sole possession of fourth place in program history ... Career completion percentage of .641 is second-best in BU history (Robert Griffin III, .671) ... Has posted 19 career 200+ passing yard games, good for 3rd most in program history ... The Austin native has eclipsed 300 yards passing 11 times, becoming the third player in program history with 10 or more games of 300+ yards passing ... Brewer has passed for 400+ yards twice, fifth most in BU history (Robert Griffin III, Bryce Petty, Blake Szymanski, Nick Florence) ... 2017 Big 12 Offensive Freshman of the Year (Waco Trib and Athlon Sports) ... Set national high school completion percentage record as all-state senior while winning state title ... 2019 All-Big 12 honorable mention (Coaches) ... 2019 Preseason All-Big 12 selection (Phil Steele) ... 2019 Earl Campbell Tyler Rose Award Finalist ... 2019 Davey O’Brien Award Semifinalist ... 2019 Maxwell Award watch list ... 2017 Big 12 Co-Offensive Freshman of the Year (Coaches).
Receivers & RBs
Baylor will spread the ball around. Five of Baylor's top seven WRs return in 2020 plus their top two TEs Chris Henle and Ben Sims. Three of their top four RBs (Lovett, Ebner, and Jones) return this season.
