The great thing about USM is they are in the rearview mirror and we miraculously got the "W". Now on to Houston Baptist. This will be a much bigger test of our secondary than USM was. In their two games HBU has averaged 32 points/game vs UNT and Texas Tech. HBU got this weekend off to heal up and to scout Tech vs USM.
In just two games HBU's NFL prospect Senior QB Bailey Zappe has thrown for 1,047 yards, 56 passes/game, and 7 TDs with ZERO interceptions! In their last game (a 33-35 near upset of TX Tech on a failed 2-point conversion) Bailey ripped the Red Raiders' defense for 567 passing yards and 4 TDs. HBU trailed 3-21 before mounting a huge comeback.
HBU has a lot more quality receiving targets than USM though. The top two are brothers Josh and Jerreth Sterns. Versus TX Tech #9 Josh Sterns had 5 catches for 209 yards and 2 TDs, #8 Jerreth Sterns had 12 catches for 130 yards and 1 TD, #22 Ben Ratzlaff had 7 catches for 105 yards, and #5 DJ Dormeus had 3 catches for 82 yards and a TD.
Here are the game highlights. Skip to halfway (2nd Quarter) to see the real action.
Here are the Texas Tech media guy's postgame comments on HBU. "HBU's receivers were running wide open really all game on Texas Tech."
