Press release:

CHARLOTTE, N.C. (Dec. 16, 2015) – First All-Freshman Team honors and now Freshman All-America honors. Louisiana Tech defensive end Jaylon Ferguson received Freshman All-American by The Sporting News Wednesday.

Ferguson led the Bulldog defense with 14.0 tackles for a loss of 64 yards and 6.0 sacks for a loss of 49 yards in a freshman campaign in which he started five games. He tallied a sack in every start except one, registered 34 total tackles (21 solo, 13 assisted) and was credited with seven quarterback hurries.

The St. Francisville, Louisiana native forced two fumbles on the year and broke up one pass. Twice he recorded two sacks in a game, once in a win over UTSA and again in LA Tech’s victory over Middle Tennessee.

He becomes Louisiana Tech’s 55th All-American and the first Bulldog to receive All-America honors since the 2012 season.

The Bulldog defensive end is the only player from a Group of Five school to be listed among Sporting News 26-member Freshman All-America Team. The list of honorees includes 11 players from the SEC with two from Louisiana, including Ferguson and LSU offensive lineman Will Clapp.

Ferguson is just the second recorded Louisiana Tech player to receive Freshman All-America honors joining Kenneth Dixon in 2012.
