We've all seen Pete Thamel's report that the team was informed this morning that Downing will be the starter. I believe that Downing was informed yesterday afternoon.
I talked to some TCU folks this morning, and he actually won the starting job at TCU coming out of fall camp in 2020. He went 11/21 for 159 yards and 1 TD in a 37-34 loss to Iowa State in the season opener. He rushed 11 times for 0 yards. In that loss, he was benched at the half for Max Duggan. Duggan finished the game 16/19 for 241 yards, 3 TDs and 1 INT & the rest is history. TCU went 6-4 in that 2020 season.
