For the season, J'Mar Smith has earned a 71.1 PFF Grade. His passing grade is 73. I wanted to take a look at the passing game in total to give us an idea of how things are going overall.
J'Mar has completed 58% of his throws for 1,558 yards, 10 TD and 6 INT. That is on pace for 3,116 yards, 20 TD, and 12 INT for the season. The second half of the schedule is arguably lesser competition, so it will be interesting to see how he finishes up.
He's been sacked 16 times, had 20 drops, had 2 passes batted down, and had 12 throw aways.
He has scrambled 16 times for 74 yards. He's averaging 4.06 yards after contact.
For the season:
Outside the Numbers to the Left: 29/41 (71%) for 425 yards, 4TD against 1 INT
Inside the Numbers: 79/113 (70%) for 986 yards, 6 TD against 2 INT
Outside the Numbers to the Right: 18/46 (39%) for 147 yards, 0 TD against 3 INT
This is obviously very telling. Why does he struggle throwing to the right? I have no idea, but I want to see that improved in the 2nd half of the season. I'm sure this has to do with getting his hips squared up when throwing that way.
For the season:
0-20 Yards down the Field: 113/166 (68%) for 1,080 yards, 7 TD against 4 INT
20+ Yards down the Field: 13/34 (38%) for 479 yards, 3 TD against 2 INT
I want to see him improve on the deep ball. Whether it's the receivers getting separation, or him not throwing a great ball, it needs to improve. Bonnette, Hardy, Woodard, and Scott all have the speed to push the field vertically. Some of this improvement obviously depends on the OL giving him time to throw, but he has to throw a more catchable ball.
This stuff obviously doesn't account for the lulls that the offense goes through, but I'm interested in hearing what some of you guys think.
