We now have played 6 games and are going into the Bye week. There is a good enough sample size of what has gone right and what has gone wrong.
What we have done right:
Hosting MSU was a good game day atmosphere. The only other time that I have felt an energy like this was the last time we played A&M in Shreveport. TM and LG need to figure out how to host a P5 school every other year moving forward.
Amik is a star and will be making more noise in the coming weeks.
Moving Veal to the slot was the best decision for both Veal and Jmar
What we have done wrong:
Conservative play calling has been Skip's calling card for his career. It now is being his undoing.
Linebacker play has been terrible this season and we have not recruited this position at all to try and improve upon what we currently have on the team
Prevent defense at the end of games
Other thoughts:
A rising tide raises all ships. What we are seeing is other programs are finally investing in their programs and scheduling smarter. We are starting to see more schools at 3-4 wins at the middle of the season than the last couple of years. Just yesterday 3 different publications had 7 or more schools going to bowl games. UNT, UAB, and WKU are building IPFs and other programs are looking into this as well. The point that I want to make is that this will be a double edge sword for Tech. This investment will raise CUSA's profile and hopefully lead to better opportunities for the members of our conference. That also means that if Tech wants to continue to be the bell cow of the conference we need to invest more as well to stay ahead of the curve or even set the curve.
