Kenneth Dixon RB
Has a real shot to be the first Louisiana Tech offensive player to be selected in the top 125 picks since RB. Ryan Moats back in 2005. Dixon is super productive, the all-time Tech rushing leader, he is built low to the ground, low-slung, hard to knock off his pegs, he runs with really strong body balance and control skills. Kenneth has good field vision and nose for the endzone. Runs tough between the tackles, very decisive with his runs and while he is a “power” runner he has the scoot ability to turn the corner and get into openfield. Excellent receiver coming out of the backfield. Sure hands. His versatility will aid his draft stock since NFL teams want their backs to be good runners, but also catch the ball well too. I have him rated as a late 3rd or early 4thround pick for the 2016 NFL draft. Needs some work as a pass protector, but he is a really good prospect and while he isn’t as tall a player as Matt Forte (Tulane and Chicago Bears) they have a lot of similarities.
Vernon Butler DT
He is a huge man in the middle for Tech. He is not as explosive coming off the snap as Justin Ellis was, but he has a knack for slipping a potential block and getting into the backfield. Really has progressed using his arms and hands when engaged and he has good trackdown skills. Good athlete who can move his feet well for a big man and adjust to movement upfront. Has a strong “power” move up the field and while he is still learning all the techniques to defeat a man upfront, he has been very impressive. Average interior pass rusher, but he can push the inside pocket and disrupt the throw. He has caught a lot of double team blocks the last year and 4 games and still be a really tough run stuffer. Needs work as a pass rusher and using his arms and hands better at the point of attack, but I really like him.. Late 4th or early 5th round pick
Adairius Barnes CB
Scouted him as a prepster at Port Gibson in Mississippi. Terrific athlete who played all across the board as a QB., running back, wide receiver and defensive back in high school. Also returned punts and kicks. Played baseball, basketball and ran track too at Port Gibson. He just has something I can’t teach and that is ball skills. He tracks the ball like a wide receiver. Plants and drives hard to the football and he has good makeup speed. 9 interceptions in 2013 and 2014. Wiry build and he needs to get stronger and become a better openfield tackler, but he gets his hands on a lot of passes and he does a fine job reading a route and the eyes of a QB… Needs to smooth out his backpedal techniques a little and he plays a little high, but he is a terrific athlete and he has a super quick initial burst to the football in flight. 6th or 7th round pick projection. No question the best cornerback prospect for the pros at Tech since Tramon Williams.
