Spring practice starts March 15th, and I’m ready for it to start. So, I decided to go ahead and put together the depth chart heading into the spring. As always, I’ll have daily practice reports from each spring practice.

*Bolded name indicates returning starter

**Early Enrollee

Offense:

QB: J’Mar Smith,Westin Elliott, Aaron Allen, Jakson Thomson**, Nate Cox
RB: Jaqwis Dancy, Israel Tucker, Justin Henderson, DeAndre Marcus or Elijah Hines, Jordan Myles
OWR: Adrian Hardy, Wayne Toussant or George Scott, Jake Norris
IWR: Bobby Holly, Griffin Hebert
IWR: Cee Jay Powell or Smoke Harris, Tahj Magee, Josh Matthews
OWR: Isaiah Graham, Rhashid Bonnette, Javonte Woodard or Praise Okorie
LT: DeVante Lovett, Biron Rossell, Walker Hankinson
LG: Drew Kirkpatrick or Josh Mote
C: Kody Russey, Abraham Delfin
RG: Ethan Reed, Carter Habich**, Taylor Fondal
RT: Gewhite Stallworth or Willie Allen, Christian Henderson, Noah Pitre

Defense:

DE: Milton Williams
NT: Courtney Wallace, D.J. Jackson, Chris Spence
DE: Ka’Derrion Mason, Steven Shaw
OLB/DE (JACK): Willie Baker
ILB: Collin Scott, Randy Hogan, Reggie Cleveland, Jacob Adams
ILB: Connor Taylor, Trey Baldwin, Isaiah Windmon, Alex Zayed
OLB/DE (SAM): Tristan Allen or Eric Kendzior
Hybrid S/LB: James Jackson, Jacorion Andrews or Brandon Floyd or Ezekiel Barnett
CB: Amik Robertson, Mike Sam, Trey Spencer
FS: Daniel Lewis (?), Ephraim Kitchen, Jaiden Cole, Derek Turner
SS: Darryl Lewis, Beejay Williamson, Kollin Hurt
CB: L’Jarius Sneed, Zach Hannibal, Aaron Roberson, Brodrick Calhoun

  • The JACK spot will be the strongside OLB, while the SAM will be on the weakside.
Specialists:

K: Brady Hale
P:
Brady Farlow
DS: Reeves Blankenship, Kyle Conrad

  • Punting concerns me, majorly.
There are 25 starters on a team if you include three specialists. Tech returns 17 starters. There are 8 starters returning on offense, 7 starters returning on defense, and 2 starting specialists returning.

What are some things that you guys want me to pay attention to this spring?

Things I will be watching closely:

  • Will J’Mar be pushed by Elliott, Allen, or Thomson? How open will the competition be?

  • Who will fill the roles at offensive tackle?

  • What will Diaco’s scheme look like? The more I hear, the more I believe it will be 3-4 look.

  • How will Diaco get the hybrids like James Jackson, Jacorion Andrews, and Brandon Floyd on to the field? I think the obvious option is that they’ll play a nickel role, but their versatility provides quite a few options. Maybe Floyd adds weight and can play inside or outside LB? He was 221 last year. Can Andrews get to 215 and play inside some? Can Jackson play a true safety role? There are so many different things they could decide to do, which could also give an opposing offense so many different looks.
Notes:

  • Cousar will be out for the spring and maybe into the season after off-season surgery from what I’ve heard

  • This doesn’t include any 2019 signees outside of Thomson and Habich because those are the only two that will be here this spring.

  • This depth chart is where I believe things will start this spring, things could obviously change by the end of it.

  • As far as I know, all the players mentioned above are still with the team, but it would not surprise me if a few more transfers trickle out over the next few weeks. Belton, Lodge, and Williams are the three we know of so far that will not return to the team.

  • I honestly believe that George Scott will redshirt in 2019.

  • If I missed anyone, please let me know.
