Not sure if you guys have heard or not, but Houston Baptist will bring a pretty good QB in Bailey Zappe to Ruston Saturday night.
Let's dive into the Huskies signal caller.
First off, Zappe is experienced. He's made 35 career starts, thrown for 9,218 yards, 70 TDs, 28 INTs.
He's off to a monster start in 2020, completing 62% for 1,047 yards and 7 TDs.
Let's take a look at his first two games according to PFF:
No Pressure | 56/81 (69%) for 809 yards, 6 TDs
Under Pressure | 13/31 (42%) for 226 yards, 1 TD
Not Blitzed | 62/97 (64%) for 952 yards, 6 TDs
When Blitzed | 7/15 (47%) for 83 yards, 1 TD
Tech needs to get some pressure on Saturday night, obviously. We say that every week. I do find it interesting that no one is blitzing HBU at all.
At LOS or Behind | 15/18 (83%) for 60 yards
0-10 Yards Down Field | 29/42 (69%) for 284 yards, 1 TD
11-20 Yards Down Field | 17/24 (71%) for 278 yards, 2 TDs
20+ Yards Down Field | 8/19 (42%) for 413 yards, 4 TDs
Zappe has done a really nice job throughout the first two games, hit some big throws down the field as well for touchdowns. I don't think any of us would say North Texas has a good defense and we don't know much about Texas Tech. Also, both of those teams were playing their first games of the season. Can Tech improve from week 1 to week 2 and limit the big play? If they do, it should be a comfortable win Saturday night.
Josh Sterns, Jerreth Sterns, and Ben Raztlaff will be the top 3 targets at WR. Interesting thing to watch on Saturday? The Huskies WRs have 10 drops in the first two games.
Josh and Jerreth's brother, Caden, is a safety at Texas. Will be a high draft pick in 2021. Both Sterns kids are small at 5'8 and 5'9, but they can play.
Should be a fun challenge for the Bulldogs Saturday night.
