RHP Sam Highfill
LHP Chris Villaman
RHP Matt Willadsen
RHP Austin Pace
Top Freshmen:
SS Eddie Eisert
SS Carson Falsken
Top Hitters:
Jonny Butler -- .388, 12 HR, 41 RBI, left-handed hitter, bunch of speed, really a tremendous job by Avent and his staff in developing him, had a long way to go when he got on campus
Tyler McDonough -- .347, 14 HR, 39 RBI, switch-hitter, they say he's just a natural, power really came on in 2021, one of best all-around players in the country
Austin Murr -- .313, 7 HR, 29 RBI, lead-off guy at the top of the lineup, hasn't been as patient at the plate as they anticipated coming out of JC, not a ton of speed, uses oppo gap very well
DH Terrell Tatum -- .306, 11 HR, 33 RBI, same story as Butler, has good power and good speed, has really developed into a consistent hitter
SS Jose Torres -- .295, 6 HR, 35 RBI, regarded as a first-round type prospect, might be the top defensive SS in the country, wiry-strong, great bat speed
C Luca Tresh -- .236, 12 HR, 38 RBI, an absolute masher, comes out of his shoes, K's a ton
OF Devonte Brown .247, 9 HR, 32 RBI, wide-open stance, rhythm hitter, can get him out with good off speed
Butler, McDonough, Tatum, and Torres can really run the bases, they've combined for 45 stolen bases.
Really good offensive club that has 76 team home runs, 67 stolen bases, averaged 7.1 runs per game.
Top Pitchers:
RHP Reid Johnston -- 7-2, 4.18, 89-92, has proven to be the ace on this staff, slider is improving, really good spin rate on fastball that allows it to play up some
LHP Sam Highfill -- 6-2, 4.24, will be 90-94, has a really good change-up, breaking ball is improving
RHP Evan Justice -- 4-2, 4.24, has 9 saves, started early but is not the closer, will be 92-96 with elite spin rate, good slider
RHP Chris Villaman -- 5-2, 4.42, high 80s guy, not going to overpower anyone, if he's not consistent with his breaking ball he can struggle
RHP Matt Willadsen -- 4-3, 4.76, will be 88-90, has good command of all 3 pitches, young guy that is pitching in his first regional, gets good sink on FB, extreme over the top guy
Outside of these 5 guys, no one else has thrown more than 13.2 innings. Get into the bullpen, that's the key to beating them. They have a 4.99 team ERA.
Defensively, they are one of the best teams in the country.
Older squad with a bunch of third, fourth, and fifth year guys.
