SO Gavin Hardison will lead the UTEP offense into Ruston, LA Saturday night.
The Miners are 3-1 with wins over SFA, Abilene Christian, and ULM. The lone loss came at the hands of Texas 59-3.
For the year, Hardison has completed 54% of his throws for 850 yards, 1 TD, 2 INTs.
Hardison has an 81 PFF grade overall, 86.9 grade as a passer, 46.1 grade as a runner.
Passing Details:
At LOS or Behind: 5/6 for 6 yards
0-10 Yards Down Field: 34/48 for 302 yards, 1 TD
11-20 Yards Down Field: 9/22 for 163 yards, 2 INTs
20+ Yards Down Field: 10/26 for 380 yards
Pressure Details:
No Pressure: 43/76 for 627 yards, 1 TD
Under Pressure: 15/30 for 224 yards, 2 INTs
Not Blitzed: 33/65 for 403 yards, 1 TD, 2 INTs
When Blitzed: 25/41 for 448 yards
Hardison has been sacked 3 times, 3 throw aways, and 10 drops by his receivers.
Hardison has received some nice reviews from PFF in terms of his play, but let's be honest, he hasn't exactly been challenged outside of the Texas game when UTEP was clearly out-manned.
Jacob Cowing and Justin Garrett are the two go-to guys at receiver. Cowing has 36 targets, while Garrett has 29 through 4 games. No one else on the roster has more than 15.
We all know about the difficulties that Tech has had defending the pass. This is a big week for Jeff Burris and his secondary. They've spent a substantial amount of time on getting their heads turned around so that they can play the ball. I think we'll continue to see Calhoun, Hannibal, and Woods at cornerback this week. Taylor-Cortez and Brown haven't done enough in practice to earn more time.
This is a UTEP team that is averaging 18 points per game. The Bulldogs need to take care of business in this one.
