So I spoke to some guys that are really close to the Texas Tech program in regards to Cumbie:

- Texas Tech guy to the core. Walk-on QB to starting QB, to working with Tx Tech radio team, to being a GA, to being a WR coach, to being an OC, to being the Interim HC
- On the surprise of him taking this job? Not surprised, get guaranteed a bunch of money although it'll likely be less than the 1+ mil he was making at Tx Tech per year. Ready to be a HC, and LA Tech is with the likes of Houston, UCF, Cincinnati, Fresno and San Diego State in terms of winning year in and year out. Plum gig.
- The offense at Tx Tech was 99.5 % Cumbie. Wells didn't have much of say.
- TCU led the Big 12 in rushing his last year there. He wants to run the football, and he wants his QB to be involved in it. The QB issues prevented that at Tx Tech. They played 3 different guys at QB due to injuries.
- On who he might bring with him? DeAndre Smith is the name mentioned, but he was a Matt Wells guy. Not necessarily a Cumbie guy. His son, Donovan, grew up in Las Vegas, played his senior year in Lubbock. Joel Filani is a guy that wasn't retained, possible WR coach. Played with Cumbie at Tx Tech when they went to Holiday Bowl in 2004 and beat Cal & Aaron Rodgers. Jake Brown was in Quality Control in Lubbock, good candidate to join staff. Was with Cumbie at TCU, too.
-His offense will present a bunch of motion, lots of personnel packages, will run a style that fits his personnel. Good bet that he'll call plays.
- Lots of Texas Tech people have turned into LA Tech fans with the hire. They love the guy.

That's what I got right now.
