I began the evening reviewing Tech's football roster for three players - Myles Mason (JR/DB/Arkansas), Joseph Mason (FR/DE/Green Oaks HS), and Rasheed Lyles (JR/DL/Trinity Valley CC).
While going through the roster, I stumbled upon Jonathan Barrows #84 (SO/WR/6'2"/212/Lake Highlands HS/Dallas), a player who I referred in Nov 2017 to Armani Perez, Director of Recruiting at the time. Jonathan was a junior at the time and would graduate from Lake Highlands in 2019.
Oh, I had also referred Jakson Thomson (QB) who was in the same class as Jonathan.
Jonathan walked on at the University of Arkansas for the 2019-2020 and left with the change in the coaching staff. According to his parents, he transferred to Tech and was to have begun classes in the spring quarter of 2020. I think he came down with Covid and would return in the fall of 2020. Until tonight, I was not aware that he was at Tech - so glad! Jonathan and Thomson formed an awesome tandem in their junior and senior seasons at Lake Highlands and put up some big numbers. Jonathan, not only excelled as a receiver, but he returned punts and kick-offs his senior season without a turnover. Hopefully, Jonathan will stick it out and be special when the time arises. Great guy!
Update on Jakson Thomson:
I found Jakson earlier this year, perhaps in January. He was at Blinn College. In the spring, I did not see him on the roster.
Tonight, I found him on the roster at Coffeyville (KS) Community College. He is listed at 6'5" & 215.
On 09/04, the Coffeyville CC Red Ravens hosted the #1 ranked NJCAA team, Hutchinson CC Blue Dragons, and the reigning 2020 NJCAA team (title game played in 2021). Coffeyville pulled out a 17-10 win in a defensive game on both sides. Jakson rallied his team from a 7-0 deficit. After Coffeyville cut the lead to 7-3, Jakson drove the team down the field and tossed a go-ahead TD pass before the half, and Coffeyville led 10-7. Coffeyville survived and won 17-10.
(Stats: 11/24/140)
Hope Jakson gets his swagger back from his days at Lake Highlands and can make an impact at the next level.
