Tech, Learfield Sports Agree To 10-Year Multimedia Rights Agreement

RUSTON, LA -- Louisiana Tech University Athletics Director Derek Dooley announced today that it has signed a 10-year multimedia rights agreement with Learfield Sports to be its exclusive athletics marketing partner commencing with the 2009-2010 academic year.

The agreement is pending the review and approval of the Board of Supervisors for the University of Louisiana System and appropriate state agencies.

“This partnership is another step forward for our athletic department,” Dooley said. “The experience and credibility that Learfield Sports brings in the industry will not only allow us to better serve our existing corporate partners, but will also allow us to attract additional companies to the program that will ultimately generate more revenue for all of our sports.”

This partnership marks the first of its kind for Tech, and it gives Learfield Sports its first property in the state of Louisiana. Louisiana Tech will now be part of Learfield Sports’ collegiate portfolio that totals more than 50 properties around the country, including the Big Ten Conference and the Western Athletic Conference.

“It will be a privilege for us to work with Derek and his team, and we’re certainly excited about this relationship and where it is headed,” said Greg Brown, president of Learfield Sports. “We’re very pleased to have this opportunity to help build the Louisiana Tech program.”

To manage and sell multimedia and sponsorship rights for the Louisiana Tech, Learfield Sports will establish “LA Tech Sports Properties” in Ruston. That locally based staff will oversee every aspect of the Bulldogs’ and Lady Techsters’ rights, including certain television rights, radio, corporate hospitality, print sponsorships, event marketing, official athletic Web site advertising and venue signage. In addition, Learfield Sports will help provide resources for the first-ever videoboard in Joe Aillet Stadium, scheduled to be installed by the start of the 2009 football season.

Other universities in Learfield Sports’ portfolio include Alabama, Oklahoma, Texas A&M, North Carolina, Miami and Penn State. The Dallas-based company also provides exclusive sports programming to more than 1,000 radio stations nationwide.

Learfield Sports is an operating unit of Jefferson City, Mo.-based Learfield Communications, Inc., which made its initial foray into the world of sports marketing in 1975 as the radio rights holder for the University of Missouri, a client still today. Additionally, Team Services, LLC, a Learfield Sports company, specializes in venue naming rights, marketing research and sales consultation.
