Louisiana Tech Mourns Loss of Track and Field Student-Athlete
Noah Riché passes away
RUSTON, La. (Aug. 15, 2015) – Louisiana Tech student-athlete Noah Riché (pronounced REE-SHAY), a javelin thrower on the track and field team, passed away Friday afternoon.
Riché, 22, was about to enter his fifth year at Louisiana Tech. He was involved in an automobile accident heading towards Ruston from Mt. Ida, Arkansas where he was working at Camp Ozark, a Christian children’s camp. He was on his way to Ruston to depart for a mission trip to El Salvador.
“This is a terrible tragedy,” Louisiana Tech head track and field coach Gary Stanley said. “Noah was such a bright young man that came to Louisiana Tech for all the right reasons. He was such an enjoyable young man, a great kid.”
A native of Madisonville, Riché was an engineering major at Louisiana Tech. A four-year member of the track and field program that sat out the 2014 season due to shoulder surgery, Riché set a personal record javelin throw this past season as he finished third at the Jim Mize Invitational with a mark of 186-3 (56.76m). Riché was also active on campus and a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA) chapter at Louisiana Tech.
“We are deeply saddened to learn the news of Noah’s tragic death,” athletics director Tommy McClelland said. “Words cannot express our true feelings of loss. Our prayers go out to Noah’s family, friends, teammates and coaches. He was an outstanding young man who represented Louisiana Tech in a first class manner.”
Riché came to Louisiana Tech after graduating from Mandeville High School in 2011. Funeral arrangements are pending.
Born on April 4, 1993 in New Orleans, Riché is survived by his parents, Elliot and Susan, and two brothers, Kyle and Adam.
