I wanted to share a few thoughts/provide information on things through the first two days:
- They get in there and work. Practices haven't gone over two hours yet. They run about 16-17 "periods" which are 5 min each. In the past, we've seen 25-27 periods in a practice. Is Cumbie getting less done? Absolutely not. That's how much pace is to these practices. They are FAST from a tempo standpoint.
- They aren't going to kill these kids in fall camp. They'll take days off on Thursday and Sunday. Won't be a ton of live tackling. They want to be really fresh for game one. That's a flip from previous regime. Those practice were long and VERY PHYSICAL.
- I think Cumbie can win with Downing and/or McNeil. The strategy is going to be different for each guy, though. I think the passing game with both will be centered around a lot of quick reads. If you asked me today, I think both guys play at Missouri.
- On the first day, I think I said Archangel is now #1. He's actually #15. Eric Randall (Memphis transfer) is wearing #1. Very good looking kid.
- Beyond White, Rossell, and Bruno the depth at offensive tackle is concerning. Is that something we didn't anticipate? Nope.
- DT depth is going to be a concern most of the year. Rose, Lyles, and Jackson can play. Spears looks like he's ready to contribute. Omar Sims doesn't look ready. Will be interesting to see what Queden Ballew looks like.
- The corners are very aggressive. Myles Brooks is legit. Easy to see why he was committed to Arkansas at one point. He's all over the ball every time the play comes his way. If Cedric Woods isn't careful, Jakelyn Morgan & RJ Johnson are going to be right in the mix for the 3rd CB spot. Looking at Brooks, Morgan, and Johnson I just think Power prefers really long CBs. Roberts is an exception, but he is physical for a smaller CB.
- Punter is punter. It's inconsistent. Doesn't matter who it is.
Questions?
