Today we continue looking at the top 30 players returning for Louisiana Tech in 2020. Another RS FR on tap, a highly recruited RS FR.
29 --- DT/NT Keivie Rose (RS FR) – Rose signed with Louisiana Tech in the 2019 recruiting class out of Henderson HS in Henderson, TX. Rose did not sign early as Texas Tech came in late on the big fella, but the Bulldogs held on late and secured his signature in the late signing period. Rose had 20 scholarship offers out of HS that included the likes of Texas Tech, Tulane, SMU, Oklahoma State, Memphis, Boise State, Colorado State and others.
Rose was one of only two true freshmen to play in the 2019 season opener at Texas a season ago. LB Maki Carabin was the other.
When Rose was signed it was unclear whether or not he would be an end or an interior player on the defensive line. To me, it’s still unclear. I think he could be the big 300-pound DE that slides to DT in a 4-man front or he could beef up to 315-320 and be a true NT.
One thing I noticed in his brief time on the field in 2019 is that he needs to play below his pads better. Sometimes he’ll stand straight up too quickly and it’ll allow the offensive lineman an advantage. Just a technique problem that Anthony Camp should be able to work out.
Looking at 2020, although Gerald Wilbon is committed, Keivie is right in the mix with DJ Jackson to earn playing time up front. Tech is going to need quality snaps from him. The Bulldogs stayed extremely healthy up front in 2019, and I hope they do again in 2020, but Rose has to be ready.
Something I’ve thought about a lot in recent days is how many quality DL a truly needed in a 3-4? In 2019, Tech primarily used 7 guys in the rotation. It’s interesting to think about.
