Over the next 6 weeks we will take a look at the top 30 players returning for Louisiana Tech in 2020. We will do one player per day.
I ranked the players on PFF grades, potential impact this upcoming season, hype coming out of HS, and what I’ve seen from them through their career in both practice and games.
I placed both Khiry Morrison and Allen Walker at the #30 spot. Two RS FR that were signed in the 2019 recruiting class that are looking to break into the two-deep in 2020. For most of the younger players I will put their HS tape in case you have forgotten what each player looked like coming out of HS.
S Khiry Morrison (RS FR) – Morrison signed with Louisiana Tech in the 2019 recruiting class over the likes of SMU, Southern Miss, Tulsa, Western Kentucky, Memphis, and ULL.
Morrison was a year behind Smoke Harris, but the two were HS teammates at West Feliciana HS.
Morrison is an interesting player to me. He came to Tech at 6’0, 207 pounds as an 18-year old. You have to figure that he could continue to grow. Might he become a LB by the time he leaves Tech? We’ll see.
He saw action in the UMass and UTEP games last season as a true freshman, playing 24 total snaps. There was not a whole lot we could take away from his performance in those two games.
Morrison is the type of kid that is a lead by example type. He doesn’t say a whole lot, but he handles his business.
Right now, I project him to challenge for a spot in the two-deep. He will also be a core special teams player.
OLB Allen Walker (RS FR) – Walker signed with Louisiana Tech in the 2019 recruiting class over the likes of Mississippi State, Kansas, Syracuse, South Florida, Rutgers, FAU, FIU, East Carolina, and others.
Walker was the highest rated recruit in Tech’s 2019 class and was the 46th ranked OLB in the country according to Rivals.com.
Prior to Walker, Price Wilson was the last HS player Tech signed out of GA. Wilson signed in 2014.
Walker is a favorite of mine. I think he’s got a chance to be pretty special with his hybrid ability.
He’s got a chance to be a really good speed rusher off the edge with ability to bend around a tackle. He was so impressive at times in practice in 2019, there was just too much depth in front of him to allow for him to get on the field.
Where does he fit in the plans for 2020? That’s a good question. Three of the four OLBs return in 2020 when you talk about Ezekiel Barnett, Willie Baker, and Tristan Allen. I think there is a pretty good chance Willie Baker puts his hand back in dirt, allowing Allen and Barnett to be the OLBs. That would allow for Walker to fit into the two-deep and potentially become somewhat of a pass rushing specialist.
Thoughts on these two young players?
