Let’s crank this puppy back up! Getting into some really interesting names this week. First up, RS SO OG Christian Henderson who is slated to play a tremendous amount on the interior of an offensive line that should be pretty good.
25 – OL Christian Henderson (RS SO) – Henderson signed with Louisiana Tech in the 2018 recruiting cycle out of Greenwood, MS. He was the 39th ranked player in the State of MS that year. Louisiana Tech was Henderson’s only known offer, according Rivals.com.
I think there was some hope when Henderson was signed that he would be a tackle but at this stage in his career, he’s definitely a guard.
If the season started today, either Christian Henderson or Antawn Lewis would start at one guard spot, with Josh Mote at the other.
As a RS FR, saw action in 5 games at guard and played 41 snaps. He earned a 65.6 PFF grade, 79.9 as a pass blocker, 63.8 as a run blocker. The 79.9 grade as a pass blocker was the highest on the team. Minimal snaps but definitely solid.
Looking at the OL in 2020, if Henderson is to start, he would be the most inexperienced guy up front. Willie Allen, Josh Mote, Kody Russey, Antawn Lewis, and Biron Rossell would be the other 5 guys up front with a substantial amount of experience.
Another thing about Henderson that I’ve noticed over his two year, he’s got a mean streak to him and he doesn’t ever seem to get too frustrated. Young guys make a bunch of mistakes on the OL, but I’ve never seen him express frustration when he’s missed an assignment.
In 2020, I know Tech is looking for some help on the OL, but I would be comfortable with Henderson playing 80% of the snaps at guard. At 6’5, 300, I think he’s going to be a solid contributor for years to come.
