There will only be 78 teams competing in FBS this year with an average of 70 bowl slots available in a year. If the NCAA forcibly cuts down bowl games to 25 game, that would mean 24% of the teams bowling would be in a NY6 game, plus all the Pac-12 and Big-10 slots would be available. Only 4 of those games are guaranteed to P-5 and a G-5 champion. I could see a situation similar to the 2010 Fiesta Bowl (TCU vs Boise) where the committee used the Fiesta, Cotton or Peach Bowl to dump the AQ G-5 Champ against the best of the rest in the G-5. Only three teams are eligible for the At Large slot with only 3 G-5 Conferences playing. Say an AAC Champ claims the spot. We could easily see the Sunbelt or CUSA champ play them in Fiesta or Peach bowl.
Add to that, Big-12, Pac-12 & MWC leave open slots in the Orange, Rose, Citrus, Outback, Vegas, Music City, Holiday, Sun, Alamo and Indy. There just too many open slots and not enough P-5 dregs to fill the spots. This is a great year to be a quality bowl team. It will be like 2:00 am at the bar where all the ladies left are pretty.
It is very important that we have that amazing season. Even if we lose to Baylor, we could still have a magical season with a chance to play a Bowl game never before offered to us.
