BASEBALL Lane Burroughs, Ethan Bates, and Dalton Davis speak w/ media ahead of Fayetteville Regional - 5.27.2024

Lane Burroughs on #LATech heading to the Fayetteville Regional.

- Is there a good draw? Is there a bad draw? There’s going to be a lot of storylines in this regional. I’ve worked for Dave Van Horn at NSU, Andy Sawyer is the HC at SEMO & he played for Van Horn, he replaced me at Kansas State. I coached at Kansas State, and Mitch Gaspard coached at Kansas State. And obviously our Player of the Year Ethan Bates played at Arkansas.

BASKETBALL Isaiah Crawford NBA Draft Nugget

Isaiah Crawford | 6-5½ | SF/PF | Louisiana Tech | Age: 22.4

The youngest player in the PIT field, Crawford's offensive impact was muted -- he is certainly a work in progress on that end -- but he stood out with his measurements and defensive versatility.

Crawford stands 6-foot-5½ in shoes, but he has a wingspan of 7 feet and one-half inch, a chiseled 220-pound frame and gigantic hands, which should allow him to play much bigger than his height. Crawford's strong intensity and outlier measurements allow him to guard all over the floor, getting over screens powerfully and being difficult to shoot over around the basket and on the perimeter. There are some theoretical qualities to Crawford's game that he can iron out over time; he is not much of a ball handler or decision-maker and is mistake-prone on both ends of the floor. Converting 40% of his 3-pointers in his college career while filling up the box score with steals and blocks are certainly intriguing from a player with his length, and there aren't many NBA teams who aren't looking for players in this mold, making him someone who will be a popular target on the NBA pre-draft circuit.

BASEBALL GAME THREAD | Diamond Dogs vs Liberty - CUSA Tournament (5.24.2024)

Louisiana Tech & Liberty will square-off in a winner’s bracket game of the CUSA Tournament on Friday.

First pitch is set for 12:30 PM on ESPN+/SportsTalk 97.7 FM.

The Bulldogs defeated MTSU 8-2, and Liberty defeated Sam Houston State 9-3 in their first round games.

Luke Nichols will get the start for Tech, and Nick Moran will start for Liberty.

Moran allowed 5 runs in 4.1 innings of work against Tech last Friday. Walked 5, allowed 5 hits, and struck out 2.

Winner plays at 12:30 on Saturday. Loser plays at 7:30 on Friday night.

Let’s go!!

NCAA House vs NCAA Issues & Impact on Tech

If I'm looking at the House vs NCAA settlement table right, CUSA's reduction is 4.5 to 5.5 million per year & that goes on for 10 years.

With 9 members that's approx $555K per member per year.

With 10 members, approx $500K.

With 12 members, approx $417K.

We're already short staffed so what do you cut? I'm thinking travel costs are most likely in the form of much tighter regional G5 conferences. Some sports could disappear.

Thoughts? And remember, this isn't a down the road thing. Our next distribution will be hit.

BASEBALL GAME THREAD | Diamond Dogs vs Middle Tennessee - (CUSA Tournament 5.22)

Louisiana Tech will square-off with Middle Tennessee in the first round of the CUSA Tournament on Wednesday.

First pitch is set for 4 PM on ESPN+/SportsTalk 97.7 FM.

Tech won 2 of 3 against MTSU at home in early April.

Reed Smith will get the start for Tech. I assume Patrick Johnson will be the start for the Blue Raiders.

The lefty Alderman started on Saturday against DBU, so I doubt they’d bring him back that quick.

Johnson allowed 4 R (3 ER) in 6.2 IP against Tech on April 7th. He struck out 7.

MTSU hits .283 as a team and have three guys with double-digit HRs. They’ve also stolen nearly 70 bases, so they’ll run some.

The Blue Raiders team ERA is north of 7 and opponents hit .330 against their pitching.
