One of the major things that Baker seems to have changed in his 20% adjustment to Manny's defense is X's role. Woods is almost exclusively playing center field now and seems to be far removed from the action by position on nearly every play, likely because teams aren't willing to challenge Tech deep with X back there.

Am I observing this correctly? If so, what do you think about it?

On one hand, it does make sense. Tech hasn't been beat on many deep/big plays at all this year, and that's due to it's best back 7 guy playing as deep as the deepest man.

On the other hand, Woods's numbers are down because he just isn't around the ball much. It isn't a decrease in ability IMO. Having watched five games now, this is a result of the scheme.

This isn't a criticism. It's just a noticeable departure from how our previous DC utilized the same player.
