We've had a lot of recent discussion about the QB position, so today I wanted to take a look at Tech's grad transfer QB Luke Anthony.
What are the Bulldogs getting in Anthony?
2017 | 80/132 (61%) for 776 yards, 11 TDs, 4 INTs
2018 | 319/484 (66%) for 3,019 yards, 23 TDs, 9 INTs
2019 | 260/412 (63%) for 2,525 yards, 17 TDs, 11 INTs
Totals | 659/1,028 (64%) for 6,320 yards, 51 TDs, 24 INTs
What did Anthony do against FBS competition? This is where it gets exciting.
Baylor (2018) -- Anthony finished 26/39 (67%) for 231 yards, 2 TDs, 1 INT
At LOS or Behind | 4/4 (100%) for 11 yards
0-10 Yards Down Field | 17/23 (74%) for 103 yards
11-20 Yards Down Field | 3/5 (60%) for 36 yards, 1 TD, 1 INT
20+ Yards Down Field | 2/4 (50%) for 81 yards, 1 TD
No Pressure | 20/27 (71%) for 191 yards, 1 TD, 1 INT
Under Pressure | 6/12 (50%) for 40 yards, 1 TD
Not Blitzed | 22/31 (71%) for 202 yards, 1 TD, 1 INT
When Blitzed | 4/8 (50%) for 29 yards, 1 TD
He was sacked once, had one drop, and two throw aways for adjusted completion % of 75%. This was his first start in 2018, third start of his career.
North Texas (2019) -- Anthony finished 24/34 (71%) for 273 yards, 1 TD
At LOS or Behind | 7/9 (78%) for 56 yards
0-10 Yards Down Field | 12/15 (80%) for 80 yards
11-20 Yards Down Field | 3/4 (75%) for 40 yards
20+ Yards Down Field | 2/4 (50%) for 97 yards, 1 TD
No Pressure | 22/27 (82%) for 269 yards, 1 TD
Under Pressure | 2/7 (29%) for 4 yards
Not Blitzed | 16/20 (80%) for 204 yards, 1 TD
When Blitzed | 8/14 (57%) for 69 yards
He was sacked three times, had three drops, and 1 throw away for an adjusted completion % of 84%. This was his first start of the season in 2019.
Mississippi State (2019) -- Anthony finished 25/38 (66%) for 255 yards, 1 TD, 1 INT
At LOS or Behind | 9/10 (90%) for 20 yards, 1 TD
0-10 Yards Down Field | 11/15 (73%) for 87 yards, 1 INT
11-20 Yards Down Field | 6/8 (75%) for 131 yards
20+ Yards Down Field | 1/3 (33%) for 30 yards
No Pressure | 23/31 (74%) for 204 yards, 1 TD, 1 INT
Under Pressure | 4/10 (40%) for 40 yards
Not Blitzed | 15/21 (71%) for 127 yards, 1 TD, 1 INT
When Blitzed | 12/20 (60%) for 141 yards
He was sacked three times, had four drops, and four throw aways for an adjusted completion % of 86%.
Overall against FBS competition, Anthony is 75/111 for 759 yards, 4 TDs, 2 INTs. He has an adjusted completion % of 81%.
At LOS or Behind | 20/23 (87%) for 87 yards, 1 TD
0-10 Yards Down Field | 40/53 (75%) for 270 yards, 1 INT
11-20 Yards Down Field | 12/17 (71%) for 207 yards, 1 TD, 1 INT
20+ Yards Down Field | 5/11 (45%) for 208 yards, 2 TDs
To me, this offense has a real chance to be extremely special in 2020. Anthony can play the position, and it is easy to see why Tech brought him in. Abilene Christian was a mid-tier team in the Southland, and I think he can do some real damage with some weapons around him and a good OL.
Anthony was also a two-time team captain at ACU.
