Was able to attend Bulldog Blitz in Houston last night. Love our group of coaches and the energy they have for next year. Each of them seems to feed off the success of the other programs. Don’t think I’m saying anything that the staff would feel uncomfortable being on a private board, but feel free to comment if so.
There will be an announcement this week on Techs approach to the name and likeness changes. Really sounds like they are doing big things to empower these young people to create their brand and make sound decisions.
They’ve done analysis and it’s easy to see players reach can extend the La tech brand beyond what any official tech account can. Basketball players have many multiples more social media followers than the actual team account.
FOOTBALL
- last year was his hardest as a coach. Has had opportunities to leave
Ruston but feels it’s only the start of things. Reminds him of Fayetteville he grew up in with the changes happening on campus and in the city.
- Skip on transfers. He looks for guys who had extenuating circumstances or are looking for a chance to contribute to a winner (scheme change, coaching change as examples).
-Vandy RB said he had won like 5 games and wanted to go out in a bowl game. SEC DBs all had experience.
- LB Group the best he’s had here. Likes DL
depth. Mentioned Baker and Rose by name.
- Jerrod Means may be the best player on the team.
-Eric woods involvement has changed players outlook on the Athletic department. He rides the bus with them. Knows their name and story.
BASKETBALL
- Crawford was still coming off the ACL. Expects another big jump from him. Junior just got back from FIBA this week.
- Kaleb Stewart a FR name to watch need him to be ready.
- Expects Thomas to come back for his extra year after this season.
- basically 7 “freshman” on the team next year. Looked for transfers with multiple years to grow.
- hard to schedule. Last year moving students behind opposing team helped. Made the comment our students were “nasty” at the end of the year when capacity increased. Need more of that.
BASEBALL
- Young will be back in addition to Netterville
- Bates and Wells could have played anywhere last year
-McConnell and Corona will get paid to play baseball. Lots of talent coming back
- Loves the rivalry building with southern Miss. “they don’t own this league anymore”.
