Maybe Pete Carmichael wasn’t meant to be a star, the guy at the podium, in front of the microphone, the cameras and the tape recorders.Maybe Pete Carmichael just knew at an early age that he could do this, be good at it for, oh, more than 40 years, all the while keeping a low profile in a high-profile business.“From the day he started to until the day he finished, he was the same guy,” said his son, Pete Jr.His dad passed away January 26. He was 74, a football coach, a lifer and well-traveled. Carmichael’s first job was at Trenton State in 1961, his last at Tufts in 2009.The litany in between? Merchant Marine Academy. Boston College (2 stints), Jacksonville Jaguars, Cleveland Browns, Chicago Bears, Pittsburgh, Louisiana Tech, Holy Cross, Tufts.
