Rivals is nearing a release where all of you will be able to gift a subscription or refer-a-friend to the site.
The gifting piece is available for purchase for anyone, you do not need a subscription. If the recipient does not have a current subscription, they will receive a link to a simple sign-up flow to activate. If the recipient already has an account, there can be additional duration tacked onto the subscription, so the next billing cycle is further out. Once the gift period is nearing its end, the recipient will be sent an email to enter their own billing information.
For the refer-a-friend piece, it works by sending you, the user, to the subscriptions page on your profile where, once it becomes active, you will see a URL that you can share with friends and family. If a friend or family member uses the link to sign-up, you and the new member will receive a bonus.
