Tech makes it official:

Louisiana Tech to Play at South Carolina in 2017

RUSTON – Louisiana Tech announced Wednesday that it has added South Carolina to its non-conference slate in 2017 with a Sept. 23 game in Columbia, South Carolina.

Barring any changes – and all future games and dates are subject to change – this completes the 2017 non-conference schedule for Louisiana Tech. The Bulldogs are also currently scheduled to host Northwestern State (Sept. 2), Mississippi State (Sept. 9) and South Alabama (Sept. 30) that season.

The 2017 contest between Louisiana Tech and Southeastern Conference member South Carolina will mark the sixth meeting between the two teams with the last occurring in 1995.

The Bulldogs and the Gamecocks fought to a 12-12 tie in the first meeting between the two schools, a game that took place at South Carolina’s Williams-Brice Stadium in 1991. The Bulldogs came back from a 12-7 deficit as Demise Loyd turned a South Carolina failed two-point conversion into two points for LA Tech on an interception returned 100 yards with 3:10 left in the game to pull within three points. Then LA Tech legend Chris Boniol – who would go on to win a Super Bowl ring with the Dallas Cowboys – kicked a 38-yard field goal with two seconds remaining to force the tie.

Louisiana Tech will face another member of the Southeastern Conference later this season when LA Tech will play at Mississippi State on Oct. 17 in Starkville, Mississippi.
