Wichita State comes into the Love Shack with a 7-0 record early on. They play in a very competitive Missouri Valley Conference that includes DBU and Missouri State. Historically the Shockers have had a very good baseball program but struggled to a 21-37 record last season. The schedule has been somewhat soft early with the exception of a good Grand Canyon squad (GCU took 2 of 3 from #22 Oklahoma State); Tech will provide their first real test of the year.

Trey Vickers and Alec Bohm both return on the left side on the infield for the Shockers, Bohm was a Freshmen All-American last season. Greyson Jenista and Gunnar Troutwine are also two of their better hitters and are also two of the better pro prospects in the league. Troutwine has started slow and lets hope it continues beginning tonight. Willie Schwanke is the ace of their staff and has started the year strong with only giving up 9 hits in 12 2/3 innings pitched. He is expected to get the start tonight. The Shockers have only allowed an astounding 13 runs in 8 games.

Chase Lunceford is beginning to heat up, he played very well against Arkansas and this is certainly a good sign. I’d like to talk a little bit about Dalton Skelton. He struggled in his first few games with the stick, but lately he’s been much better. He was highly touted defensively and rightfully so, he has been absolutely outstanding. He has shown good range, he’s sure-handed, and has a strong arm when he needs to get it across the diamond in a hurry. Should be a fun weekend and a nice test for the Dogs this weekend.
