FOOTBALL SUMMER SERIES 2023 | 2015 LA Tech Football Season Recap

Man, 2015 was fun.

Bring in the former #1 QB on the country, and he was DYNAMIC.

Loss at K-State hurt. Should’ve won that one.

Then the crazy game at home against USM to end the year. Just nothing went right, turned it over it felt like every player.

Bounced back to blowout the Sun Belt Champ in bowl game. Dixon set NCAA TD record in that game.

TECH NEWS Dinner with President Guice - Little Rock - June 15th

The LA Tech Alumni Association hosted the Dinner with President Guice event in Little Rock tonight. The dinner was at Copper Grill in downtown Little Rock (great place, by the way). There were about 40-45 people there, and the group was mixed in terms of age. I expected an older crowd when I got there, but there was a healthy mix of older, middle aged, and younger people for the event tonight.

Here is some of the news Dr. Guice talked about tonight:
  • The interior of Tolliver Hall was (or will be) renovated. The drawings and renderings of the Tolliver Hall look really good.
  • The first phase of playground renovations at A.E. Phillips (retaining wall, removal of trees, sod laying) is complete. Phase 2 (installation of playground equipment) should begin shortly.
  • Dr. Guice wants A.E. Phillips to be a standard bearer for K-8th grade schools in the region.
  • The renovation of Centennial Plaza is complete.
  • The Forest Product Innovation Center was part of the Capital Outlay bill. The State is committing $10 million to this project. RoyOMartin is committed for $2 million and 10 years. Dr. Guice asked the Governor if the State would commit $10 million to this project if Tech raised $5 million for it. The Governor said yes. Tech is still getting the $5 million, but has commitments from RoyOMartin and Hunt.
  • George T. Madison Hall will be renovated. The drawings for the renovation are underway. The project was funded by the 2023 Capital Outlay bill that just passed in the Legislature last week. GTM got to the point where the basement floor couldn't be used due to mold.
  • The first phase of the Sarah and A.L. Williams Champions Plaza is underway. Dr. Guice mentioned statutes of Bradshaw, Malone, Roaf, Mulkey, and Teresa Weatherspoon.
  • Dr. Guice said there will be one videoboard at the Joe instead of two as part of the renovations in the North End Zone. The new videoboard that will be installed as part of the North End Zone project will be the largest videoboard in the State of Louisiana. Videoboard will be built, then the Academic Athletics Center will be built. The renderings showed the videoboard on top of the Academic Athletics Center.
  • The Academic Athletics Center was the 3rd project in the Capital Outlay bill passed last week.
  • Louisiana Tech plans to remove the parking lots between George T Madison Hall and the Ropp Center. Tech will replace those spaces with a 3-story parking garage north of the railroad tracks near the pedestrian bridge.
  • Louisiana Tech will start to occupy space in the LTRI in Bossier City in the next few months. Construction had been delayed due to supply chain issues.
  • Tech Pointe 2 is about three months away from completion. About 2/3(?) of the available space in this building is already leased out to companies.
  • This is not a done deal yet, but Radiance Technologies wants to build a microchip manufacturing plant in Ruston. About $100 million related to the CHIPS Act. Ruston's Mayor has committed a piece of land in Ruston to be donated for the plant. Radiance already is leasing space in Tech Pointe.
  • This wasn't discussed in Dr. Guice's speech tonight, but I've heard Carson Taylor Hall will be renovated.
  • The Alumni Association is having a pregame event in Dallas for the SMU game on September 2nd.

FOOTBALL Summer Series 2023 | 2014 LA Tech Football Season Recap

This was one heckuva year as a Tech fan. Virtually no expectations for this team, a loss to Northwestern State, but an extremely gutsy roster led by its QB Cody Sokol that found a way to get to 9 wins.

Oh yeah, maybe the most exciting defense in the country w/ Manny Diaz leading the way.

@cwardell03 does a great at looking into the season + talks w/ Cody Sokol & Trent Taylor about the experience:

FB RECRUITING Update on DT Ashton Coker

2024 DT Ashton Coker took an official visit to Louisiana Tech June 8-10 (we reported that).

On the visit, Coker told BleedTechBlue.com, “It was absolutely amazing. They are amazing people and treated me like family.”

Coker does not have any other official visits lined up this summer, and Tech is his clear leader. He said he is trying to figure out when he is going to commit.

Wonder when this will come to Louisiana?

According to this survey, Louisiana ranked 49th out of 51 States plus DC in percentage net population growth.

Somehow we just must stop the bleeding. It feels like it’s almost too late…

BASKETBALL New Addition to Men’s Basketball Coaching Staff

Kavin Gilder-Tilbury has joined the Tech coaching staff for the 2023-2024 season.

He will take the spot of Dave Nedbalek on the staff. Nedbalek went back to Oral Roberts after one season in Ruston. Nedbalek was the Video Coordinator for Talvin Hester last season.

The position that Gilder-Tilbury will hold will be more of a coaching position than the one Nedbalek held. What is the reasoning for that? The NCAA has increased the amount of on-court coaches this season.

Gilder-Tilbury played his college basketball at Texas State where he scored 1,385 points in his 4-year career.

Following his career for the Bobcats, the 6’7 forward played professionally overseas and in the NBA G-League.

Gilder-Tilbury has spent the last two seasons at Texas Tech under Mark Adams.

FOOTBALL Recapping a Decade of Bulldogs Football

My name is Caleb Wardell, and this past spring was my first time working for Ben and Bleed Tech Blue. I had an amazing time writing series previews and recaps for the entire 2023 baseball season, and I will continue to contribute to BTB during the 2023 football season. Leading up to fall camp, I wanted to release a recap of each Bulldogs’ football season over the last decade, dating back to the 2013 season. Every Tuesday and Thursday, I will post a recap of each season and conclude with a ranking of each Bulldog team, as well as specific position groups. I’m anticipating several fun conversations about different teams and players. If you have any feedback or additional ideas that you’d like to see in these recaps or rankings, please comment and let me know. The series will start this Thursday, June 15th, when we’ll dive into the 2013 season.
