BASEBALL GAME THREAD | Diamond Dogs vs Charlotte - (C-USA Tourney Elimination Game 5.26)

First pitch is scheduled for 2 PM on Friday afternoon.

Game will be on ESPN+/SportsTalk 97.7 FM.

Landon Tomkins will start for Tech, I assume.

Collin Kramer will start for Charlotte, I assume. He didn’t pitch against Tech earlier this year. He’s a lefty.

Don’t let Cam Fisher beat you if you’re Tech.

Win or Go Home.

Let’s go!!!

BASEBALL GAME THREAD | Diamond Dogs vs Middle Tennessee - (C-USA Tourney 5.25)

Louisiana Tech & Middle Tennessee will square-off in the 2nd round of the C-USA Tournament on Thursday.

First pitch is scheduled for 12:30 PM on ESPN+.

Tech defeated Charlotte 13-8 on Wednesday.

MTSU defeated UTSA 5-1 on Wednesday.

The winner will be in the driver’s seat on their side of the bracket and will get Friday off. If Tech wants to win the tournament, they have to win today.

I would assume Harland or Martinez will start. Tomkins & Bates in long relief to try and shut things down.

Let’s go!!!

BASEBALL GAME THREAD | Diamond Dogs vs Charlotte - (C-USA Tourney 5.24)

First pitch is scheduled for 9 AM between the ‘Dogs & 49ers.

The game will be on ESPN+/SportsTalk 97.7.

Charlotte won the season series 2-1 in Ruston earlier this season.

Fincher will start for Tech. He went 6 innings, 1 ER in his first start against Charlotte.

Dalton Davis has 9 HR & 24 RBI in his last 11 games for Tech.

Corona & Sparks are potentially unavailable. Corona injury, & Sparks academics.

Wyatt Hudepohl will start for Charlotte. He took the loss in Ruston after allowing 2 ER in 6.1 innings of work. He’s a big strikeout guy, but Tech only had 4 K in the first meeting.

Tech can’t let Cam Fisher beat them. Physical left-handed hitter that had 24 HR in the regular season. They have a few other threats, but they’ve been similar to Tech offensively in that a bunch of guys didn’t perform up to their 2022 standard in 2023.

BASEBALL Baseball Notes - 5.22.2023

Couple of Notes from Burroughs on Radio this morning:

- Offense has performed to where he thought they’d be over last month or so. Averaging nearly 8 runs a game over last 21-22 games
- Fincher will go Wednesday, Tomkins on Thursday. Original plan was Tomkins on Wednesday, but wanted to win on Saturday
- Moved Davis to leadoff spot to try and take some pressure off him in 3-spot, and he’s taken off. He and McConnell were our best all fall, and he’s showing who he is right now. He’s never in a bad spot mentally, rock solid everyday.
- 90% of offense will be back next year. Everyone except Matulia & Burchfield. McConnell will be back, Corona will be back, Drost needs to cut down on strikeouts, but he’s got 10 HR in his first year of playing. Safford leads us in doubles. Got some really good young players that will push for time.
- Focus on recruiting is centered around starting pitching. We’ve had a bunch of visits last couple of weeks, it’s been crazy. Have a visit today. But we will be old offensively next year, really like where we are at in that aspect. We got punched in the mouth this year, and it’s not fun, but we’ll be better off for it. Chip is back on the shoulder.
- Will practice early tomorrow, then head to Houston. Need to get the first game. Anything can happen in a conference tournament, will ask some guys to pitch multiple days in a row maybe everyday.
- Need our pitchers to go out this summer and get innings. We got good arms. We got knocked around early, and we got rattled. Get away from our parents, more relaxed atmosphere, and go work on our craft. It’ll be a huge summer for our pitchers.

FOOTBALL Uniforms

Can we please get larger numbers and names on the back of the jerseys? We look like a Juco or D2.

I know we have bigger issues, however how much more can it be to put bigger numbers and names on the players. $5 more a Jersey?

Monday Madness

BASEBALL GAME THREAD | Diamond Dogs vs UTSA - (5.18 - 5.20)

Final series of the regular season this weekend for the Diamond Dogs at home against UTSA.

Thursday - 6 PM
Friday - 6 PM
Saturday - 12 PM

All 3 games will be on CUSA.tv/SportsTalk97.7 FM.

Five seniors will be playing their final home games: Fincher, Matulia, Tomkins, Burchfield, and Knight

UTSA is the 2-seed for the conference tournament next weekend, and their at-large dreams are over.

D1 Baseball this morning on the RoadRunners, “UTSA was cruising right along and was firmly on the sunny side of the bubble watch conversation a week ago. Heading into their weekend series against Dallas Baptist in San Antonio between a pair of Top 25-ranked teams, the Roadrunners had a perfect opportunity to take their postseason fate in their own hands with a series win. That wasn’t meant to be, as DBU swept UTSA whose RPI is now 60. Although they’re still firmly secured as the second-place team in Conference USA, it’s more obvious that UTSA needs to win the conference tournament for a spot in the postseason.”

Tech can finish anywhere from 3rd to 7th in the conference standings. With that said, is there a major difference in any spot? Probably not, you have to win the tourney either way. I’d prefer to play WKU first round, honestly.

Will Tech play to win? Obviously, but I don’t think you’ll see Bates going 5 innings or anyone getting pushed absurdly hard on the mound. They’ll do that next week.

Let’s gooooo!!!
