Couple of Notes from Burroughs on Radio this morning:
- Offense has performed to where he thought they’d be over last month or so. Averaging nearly 8 runs a game over last 21-22 games
- Fincher will go Wednesday, Tomkins on Thursday. Original plan was Tomkins on Wednesday, but wanted to win on Saturday
- Moved Davis to leadoff spot to try and take some pressure off him in 3-spot, and he’s taken off. He and McConnell were our best all fall, and he’s showing who he is right now. He’s never in a bad spot mentally, rock solid everyday.
- 90% of offense will be back next year. Everyone except Matulia & Burchfield. McConnell will be back, Corona will be back, Drost needs to cut down on strikeouts, but he’s got 10 HR in his first year of playing. Safford leads us in doubles. Got some really good young players that will push for time.
- Focus on recruiting is centered around starting pitching. We’ve had a bunch of visits last couple of weeks, it’s been crazy. Have a visit today. But we will be old offensively next year, really like where we are at in that aspect. We got punched in the mouth this year, and it’s not fun, but we’ll be better off for it. Chip is back on the shoulder.
- Will practice early tomorrow, then head to Houston. Need to get the first game. Anything can happen in a conference tournament, will ask some guys to pitch multiple days in a row maybe everyday.
- Need our pitchers to go out this summer and get innings. We got good arms. We got knocked around early, and we got rattled. Get away from our parents, more relaxed atmosphere, and go work on our craft. It’ll be a huge summer for our pitchers.
