BASKETBALL LSU Put NCAA Womens Basketball on the Map

Forget about what you actually watched in person. Forget about the dominating undefeated seasons and National Championships. Forget about the 100+ points scores and blowout wins over anybody and everybody.
LSU has single handedly put women's basketball on the map, "just because of who we are". And LA Tech alum Kim Mulkey endorses this revisionist-history garbage.

BASEBALL Denny McLain radio interview

Denny was a guest on the Jim Engster show today. He is a frequent guest. He debuted in the major leagues as a teenager 60 years ago today. He had a very interesting take on his pitching successes. He attributed it to his rehab after he hurt his arm in 1967. That winter he bowled a lot, 6 days a week. He said it built up his arm without stressing his shoulder. As a result, his fast ball got close to 100mph. He recommended that anyone with a teenager that seemed to be a pitching talent to have them bowl a lot. He was really serious about it

On a previous show, he said he learned to throw a slider for a strike and that added a few years to his career

BASEBALL Lane Burroughs & Josh Taylor speak w/ Media - 3.29.2023

Lane Burroughs:

  • Really proud of our guys the last four games. It feels like we are starting to click. We are putting together really quality at bats, and we are getting quality starts on the mound. Didn’t defend as well the last couple of games, but we’ll get that cleaned up.
  • We’ll stay with Fincher, Sparks, TBA on the mound. We will use Greg on Friday or Saturday if we need to. We are trying to use him in an opener type role when he starts. He had a lot of traffic on the bases on Sunday, but he managed to keep us in the game. When you limit a team to five runs on a Sunday, you feel good about it.
  • Dallas Baptist is really good, but we want to go to Omaha in our program. To get there you have to beat really good team. Coach Heefner is one of the best coaches in the country. They may come in and kick our teeth in, but we are going to fight. We aren’t going to back down from anyone, that’s who we are in this program.
  • When I started seeing some 12-hop ground balls get through last night, you could feel the breakthrough coming. I hate to talk about breaks because I believe in creating your own breaks, but last night was one of the first times all year we had the breaks go our way. It’s been funny how sound teams have played against us all year.
  • When you’re struggling to score runs as a coach you want to play the best hitting lineup you got. But we knew we had to get McLeod back at 3rd, that’s his best position. Ince is hurt now, so we’ll roll with Safford at SS. He’s a really good defender, he’s tough, and his teammates love him. He’s bought into this program, and if he gets a hit or two to fall he’ll take off like some other guys. We’ll stick with this lineup and get Evans & a few others some at bats when the situations present themselves.
  • On AD stretching single to double last night, he’s playing free and loose. That’s what we want all our guys to do. We give him the green light, and he’s playing so aggressively. It’s starting to rub off on some others because we’ve had guys not take off in green light scenarios. They were playing too tight, but we are seeing guys play with confidence the last 4-5 games.
  • Phil scolded a ball to left in his first at bat last night. When he uses the middle of the field, he’s at his best. When he’s scuffling, he’s swinging at everything and not taking his walks. He’s really taking his walks lately and it’s paying off. He’s our captain and leader, we need him. He knows that.
