Fans and alumni can now submit nominations for the Louisiana Tech Athletics Hall of Fame. All submissions are due by Friday, March 31. The class will be announced this spring and enshrined during a home football weekend. We have talked before about how some of our legends have not been inducted yet. So NOW is YOUR OPPORTUNITY to make that happen!

The nomination form can be found (HERE) or requested by emailing Associate A.D. for Strategic Communications Kane McGuire at kmcguire@latech.edu.

FB RECRUITING Update on Roderick Roberson Jr

Roberson Jr is a transfer S from SMU.

He told me he’s had some really good conversations with Paul Turner over the last week.

He’ll find out tomorrow if Tech has a graduate program that he can be accepted into.

It sounds like Tech is his favorite. He told me he’s really hoping to enroll in March.

He’s played 473 snaps in his career on defense. 209 snaps on special teams. I’d imagine him & Griffin-Taylor would be safety 2 & 3 this fall if Tech can get him.

SOFTBALL Josh Taylor speaks w/ Media - 3.7.2023

@cwardell03 w/ the coverage:

Josh Taylor:

- We had a big win against a Central Arkansas team who just beat Arkansas.

- The story is pitching this weekend. I am excited about where we’re at especially pitching wise. 4 shutouts was very good, scored enough runs.

- We get to play the favorite (North Texas) right out of the gate in conference play.

- We love playing at home, we have a good fanbase, and our players really like being at home.

- Our offense has been too hit and miss, left too many players on bases this season. We can’t continue this trend if we want to make a run.

- We try to do too much in those situations w/ runners on, and struggle with finding time. We have to understand what balls we can drive and what balls we can’t. I think it’s more just being more aggressive on time. We have to be more disciplined in our approach.

- I like where we’re at. We had opportunities to win every game that we haven’t won. When you look at where we’re at on the defensive side, we’ve been in every game. We’re excited about C-USA play. We’re focused on ULM tonight.

BASEBALL GAME THREAD | Diamond Dogs vs Northwestern - (3.3 - 3.5)

Louisiana Tech will host Northwestern in a 3-game series at the Love Shack this weekend.

Friday - 6 PM
Saturday - 2 PM
Sunday - 12 PM

All 3 games will be on CUSA.tv.

Northwestern is 0-6 and has been outscored 75-22 in those 6 games.

They were better last weekend, only allowing 19 runs in 3 games.

They are down to a HC & a volunteer coach after two assistants quit after last weekend.

I know, Tech should be able to do play their JV and beat them 87-2. But after the coaching change this past week, I bet they come out with their hair on fire tonight for sure.

Our guys can’t be overlooking them at all.

Full preview by @cwardell03 coming mid-morning. Let’s go!!!!

BASEBALL Lane Burroughs speaks w/ Media - 3.7.2023

@cwardell03 w/ the coverage:

Lane Burroughs:

- Northwestern was the best winless team that I’ve seen. It was a good sweep, we needed it. Extremely proud of our hitters for being relentless. We’ve played 12 games and it has seemed like 30. We have a big series then the league play starts.

- Arkansas has lost two of its main bullets in the bullpen. They have had some bumps and bruises, but they’re still Arkansas. One of the best teams year in and year out in the country. One of the best venues in the country with a rabid fanbase. I know they’ve lost some guys but they still have tremendous players. So much respect for Coach Van Horn. He’s been willing to play us at our place as well.

- Reed Smith’s finger was swollen but by the end of the game, his finger was back at its normal size. Everything looks good, he’ll be on pace to start on Sunday. Expecting the same weekend rotation for Arkansas.

- Walker Burchfield: went to college with his dad, always been a great hitter, very hard worker. No one takes batting practice like Walker. He loves to compete and the success that he’s having is due to his hard work. He’s getting what he deserves, has tremendous power, and knows how to drive gaps. We have 3-4 guys like him fighting for the DH spot, rolling with the hot hand a lot. I don’t like messing with their minds moving them around in batting order when they get hot like he is.

- Greg Martinez: start of the season has been disappointing. Not disappointed in Greg, just the results. Coach Fouts has done a lot of video work to help Martinez. We are trying to get his arm slot back to where it was last season. We can’t have Martinez not being a factor. Whatever we have to do, it’s our job. He’s giving up a lot of hard contact, he’s too good to do that. We’ll get it fixed.

BASKETBALL Brooke Stoehr speaks w/ Media - 3.7.2023

@cwardell03 w/ the coverage:

Brooke Stoehr:

- We talked about going into this home stretch finishing well, added production on the boards and experience on the perimeter has been a big factor of the recent success.

- Preached about finishing well through quarters, games and roadtrips.

- A UTEP hurt us on the offensive glass and the interior, pounded us inside and allowed turnovers that became transition points.

- Have to keep UTEP off the glass to beat them in the C-USA tournament.

- Gabbie Green has been really good last couple of weeks. Robin Lee is really stepping up. Lotte has seen her minutes increase since Amaya went out. It takes a player or two that’s not normally in the limelight to step up in tourney play.

- It’s survive and advance, we’ll be ready for UTEP on Thursday.
