Can Tech keep its momentum going?
Game Times:
Friday - 6 PM first pitch on ESPN+
Saturday - 2 PM first pitch on ESPN+
Sunday - 1 PM first pitch on ESPN+
Pitching Probables:
Friday - LHP Jonathan Fincher vs RHP Braden Olthoff (2-0, 2.52)
Saturday - RHP Ryan Jennings vs RHP Donovan Benoit (0-1, 6.92)
Sunday - RHP Jarret Whorff vs LHP Jack Aldrich (1-0, 2.88)
Johnson was AWFUL in his first start against Troy last week, we'll see if they change things up.
Tulane enters the weekend at 9-7 overall. They've lost 2 of 3 to ULL & #2 Mississippi State, but they have taken 2 of 3 from WKU and Troy.
The Green Wave were picked to finish 4th in the AAC. Tulane was 15-2 before the shutdown in 2020.
RHP Braden Olthoff was picked in the preseason to be the AAC Pitcher of the Year. He's the 4th best MLB Draft prospect in 2021 in the AAC.
Other 2021 Draft Prospects:
RHP Donovan Benoit
INF Trevor Minder
RHP Keegan Gillies
C Luis Aviles
Impact Freshmen:
RHP Blake Mahmood
OF Jake LePrairie
OF Brandon Howell
OF Matthew Bihm
C Bennett Lee
Top Pitchers:
RHP Braden Olthoff -- not overpowering, really good breaking ball, really good command of the strike zone, knows he's good, pitches with confidence
RHP Keegan Gillies -- has been up to 97, but has had major control issues, velocity allows those control issues to not hurt him as much to this point, he's 6'8
RHP Donovan Benoit -- major control issues thus far, but he's been up to 96 at times
RHP Zach Devito -- has been really good in the closer role, he's a freshman
Listen, their bullpen is really young in some spots, if you can get the Friday night guy off the mound, you can beat these guys.
Top Hitters:
SS Collin Burns -- .382, 1 HR, 11 RBI, 6 stolen bases, he strikes out A LOT
DH Frankie Niemann -- .378, 2 HR, 14 RBI
CF Jared Hart -- .333, 9 RBI, 3 stolen bases
2B Chase Englehard -- .283, 3 HR, 11 RBI
C/1B Luis Aviles -- .246, 2 HR, 16 RBI
3B Trevor Minder -- .194, 6 RBI, 3 stolen bases, he's a really good player that's off to a slow start, let's hope it stays that way
They'll really test you on the bases with their speed. At the plate, not a ton of power, will strike out a bunch at times.
Tech needs 2 wins this weekend.
