Many of the fans Tech is fighting for in this region make about 60k a year. It is a SIGNIFICANT investment in terms of overall income to pay to come watch Tech play. Athletics is mostly about entertainment. In terms of return on the dollar, are you better off watching LSU (or whoever) play on TV and hopefully make a game every other year or buying season tickets to go watch Tech play? Seriously. What is the better investment? Every coach on Tech's staff makes more than the average income in this region. If you make 60k, Cumbie makes more than you will make in like 15 years. I realize that's college football but I think it's relevant. People expect more for their money. And, if they don't get more, they'll spend their small discretionary entertainment fund somewhere else. Here's the reality-- ULM is giving more bang for the buck right now. They are in a better conference. They win more games. And they pay their staff far less than Tech does. Most working people aren't stupid with their money.
