Tech will travel to Little Rock to take on UALR today. First pitch is set for 4 p.m. UALR beat Tech 2-1 twice last season.

D1 Baseball picked UALR third in the West Division of the Sun Belt.
The Trojans are 1-6 overall. They were swept by Creighton at home to open the year, lost in the midweek at OK State last week, and were losers of two of three to Evansville at home this past weekend.
Tech’s pitching coach, Mike Silva, was the pitching coach at UALR last season.
Neither team has named a starting pitcher to this point. It will be interesting to see who Tech gives the ball to.
UALR returns a bunch of experience from a season ago with six position players returns, two weekend starters, and seven prime relievers.
IMO, could relievers are so key in midweeks.
Chase Coker, Ryan Benevidez, and Troy Alexander make up the Trojan outfield. All three are very good players. Benevidez is off to a scorching hot start with three home runs in seven games.
Freshman SS, Miguel Soto is hitting .304 with 1 home run and 6 RBI in the early going.
As a team, they are hitting .238 with a .348 OBP and averaging 6 runs per game. They are drawing 6 walks per game. Definitely something to keep an eye on.
McKinley Moore got the start for them in the midweek against OK State last week. They threw 8 different guys. They’ve been doing that for years in the midweek.
As a team, the Trojans have a 7.03 ERA to this point. They have walked 51 guys in 64 innings of work. Tech SHOULD have a big offensive day.
Looking at some of Tech’s offensive stats so far:
Mallard: .481/.576/.667 (1 home run, 9 RBI)
Young: .462/.556/.692 (1 home run, 6 RBI)
Robinson: .375/.394/.500 (1 home run, 6 RBI)
Wells: .345/.500/.483 (3 extra base hits, 3 RBI)
Wallace: .320/.438/.440 (1 home run, 5 RBI)
Clayton: .304/.320/.348 (8 RBI)
Netterville: .296/.387/.667 (2 home runs, 9 RBI)
Bates: .258/.342/.419 (1 home run, 7 RBI)
Tech is averaging nearly 9 runs per game. That’s a great recipe for success on the offensive side.
The pitching staff still has a few things to work out, especially in the rotation, but last weekend was a step in the right direction. For the year, the staff has a 5.77 ERA in 64 innings of work. They have allowed 75 hits, walked 37, and struck out 71.
Need a win tonight, can’t afford to lose to these guys.
