Here is an early look at 2022:
Gone for sure:
CF Parker Bates
3B Hunter Wells
1B/OF/DH Manny Garcia
P Kyle Griffen
P Tyler Follis
P Bryce Fagan
All 6 of those guys were “super seniors.”
Option to return in 2022:
2B Taylor Young
OF/DH Steele Netterville
SS Alex Ray
P Cade Gibson
P Shemar Page
P Jarret Whorff
P Kyle Crigger
Obviously these guys could leave on their own or leave due to the 2021 MLB Draft.
Guys that may get drafted in my opinion:
Parker Bates
Taylor Young
Jonathan Fincher
There’s a CHANCE that Tech returns it’s entire starting rotation + 6 of 9 hitters in the order.
Core Guys that the 2022 COULD be centered around:
2B Taylor Young
OF/DH Steele Netterville
LF Cole McConnell
OF/DH Phillip Matulia
C Jorge Corona
SS Alex Ray
P Jonathan Fincher
P Ryan Jennings
P Jarret Whorff
P Kyle Crigger
Nice pieces coming back, but need to take next step:
C Kyle Hasler
1B Ben Brantley
OF Adarius Myers
P Beau Billings
P Casey Ouellette
P Cade Hodges
P Landon Tomkins
P Greg Martinez
P Cade Gibson
P Seth Traweek
Do I expect all of these to return? No, I do not. I would expect some roster shuffling on the mound.
Signees for 2022:
Important Off-Season Needs:
- Add a middle infielder to compete for legit time at 2B/SS. Whether Young and Ray are both back or not, we need more competition in the middle.
- Hit the transfer portal/JCs for power stick at 3B.
- Can Myers or McConnell play CF everyday? Bates was so good defensively.
- Ideally guys like Hodges, Tomkins, Gibson, Traweek, Billings, and Ouellette are you middle relief guys. They have to take steps forward on the mound, every single one of them, but go find a late inning guy to pair with Crigger for high leverage spots.
- Move Martinez to a starting role and let him sink or swim. He's not a reliever.
- Develop a plan for Corona behind the plate. He can't catch 60 games. He needs to start at least 20 games at DH/1B in my opinion.
