TECH NEWS Wally Crittenden hired at LA Tech

Crittenden has been hired by Ryan Ivey into a position that is similar to the position Colton Primm held prior to his departure for Arkansas.

Primms official title was Senior Associate AD - Championship Resources.

I’m not sure what Crittenden’s exact title will be, but he’s been hired to replace Primm.

BASEBALL GAME THREAD | Diamond Dogs vs Liberty

Louisiana Tech will travel to Lynchburg, VA to take on Liberty in its final regular season series of the season.

Thursday | 5 PM
Friday | 3 PM
Saturday | 12 PM

All 3 games can be found on ESPN+/SportsTalk 97.7 FM.

RHP Smith vs RHP Hetzler
LHP Nichols vs LHP Moran
RHP Hubka vs RHP Hudson (more of an opener type guy)

Notes on Liberty

- Liberty went to 3 straight regionals in 2019, 2021, & 2022, but have been under .500 in each of 2023 & 2024.
- Hetzler is a physical right-hander on Friday night. FB/CB guy.
- Moran is a left-hander that hasn't given them a ton of length throughout the year. FB/SL guy.
- Carter is probably their best arm out of the pen, can run it up into the high 90s, good SL. Command can escape him at times.
- Kepley is their best hitter, left-handed hitter. Good OBP, little bit of pop. Not a great defender in the OF.
- They'll play/start quite a few freshmen, so they'll likely be pretty good in future year. C is a freshman, good player that hits in middle of lineup. SS is a freshman too, pretty good defender.

I know y'all won't overreact to anything all weekend, let's go!! Big weekend!!

BASEBALL GAME THREAD | Diamond Dogs vs Western Kentucky

Final regular season home series of the year for the Bulldogs this weekend when they'll play host to Western Kentucky.

Friday | 6 PM
Saturday | 2 PM
Sunday | 1 PM

All 3 games will be on ESPN+/SportsTalk 97.7 FM.

WKU has a 1-game lead over Tech & DBU in the conference standings right now.

Notes on Tech

Cole McConnell, Dalton Davis, Adarius Myers, Jorge Corona, Ethan Bates, Logan McLeod, Kasten Furr, Reed Smith, Sam Brodersen, Isaac Crabb, Greg Martinez, & Brenton Thiels will be playing their final home series at the Love Shack this weekend.

Tech will start Reed Smith, Luke Nichols, and Grant Hubka on the mound this weekend.

It will be interesting to see how Tech covered those middle innings that Hubka has gotten on the weekend all year. That's a massive key to the series for me. Need Hooks, Copeland, and Havern to step.

Logan McLeod will likely be back on the roster this weekend, but Grant Comeaux is expected to start at 3B. Comeaux is the starter at 3B.

Notes on WKU

Marc Rardin has done a tremendous job at WKU in his 2 years. The Hilltoppers have won 30 games in back-to-back years for the first time since 2010/2011.

The Hilltoppers make their money with a 4.80 ERA on the mound, which ranks 40th nationally.

The starting pitchers don't "wow" you with ERAs in the mid-5s, Bimbi is a lefty on Saturday with good K numbers. Dawson Hall started against MTSU a couple weeks ago on Sunday, he has a 1.80 ERA. Doesn't have a ton of innings, may have been hurt earlier in year but I'm not sure.

Mason Burns has 14 saves, tied with Bates for the lead nationally. He's given up 33 hits in 29.1 innings, but he doesn't have 42 K.

Offensively, no one in the lineup is going to blow you away by any means. Leading HR guy only has 6. Leading RBI guy only has 36. The will bunt A TON. They lead the country with 65 sacrifice bunts. When they bunt, take the out. It's a free out.

Throw strikes, play good defense and you'll have success against them on the mound.

Who Helped Their Case

Louisiana Tech

Louisiana Tech

After losing a surprising series to New Mexico State on the road two weekends ago, the Bulldogs responded in impressive fashion over the weekend by sweeping a good Western Kentucky club at home. The series sweep moved La. Tech’s RPI up to 34, which is an 11-spot improvement from last week. With that type of RPI and their conference standing, the Bulldogs have a little breathing room entering the final weekend of the regular season.
