FOOTBALL Simulated The Louisiana Tech Football Season

There is a website I recently found that you can simulate college football & basketball games on. I will post the link below so anyone that wants to can mess around with it. I decided to simulate the entire Louisiana Tech football regular season. Just a note this simulator is very inconsistent and when home field advantage is on it heavily favors the home team, and for some reason it has a lot of wacky upsets, such a South Dakota upsetting Georgia. But here are the scores it predicted for each Tech game this upcoming season.

Week 1 - Nicholls 23 @ Louisiana Tech 20 (0-1)
Week 2 - Louisiana Tech 21 @ NC State 44 (0-2)
Week 3 - Tulsa 6 @ Louisiana Tech 31 (1-2)
Week 4 - Louisiana Tech 44 @ FIU 40 [5OT] (2-2)
Week 5 - MTSU 24 @ Louisiana Tech 43 (3-2)
Week 6 - Louisiana Tech 3 @ NMSU 13 (3-3)
Week 7 - UTEP 17 @ Louisiana Tech 23 (4-3)
Week 8 - Louisiana Tech 17 @ Sam Houston State 20 (4-4)
Week 9 - Jacksonville State 17 @ Louisiana Tech 24 [OT] (5-4)
Week 10 - Louisiana Tech 21 @ WKU 27 (5-5)
Week 11 - Louisiana Tech 13 @ Arkansas 23 (5-6)
Week 12 - Kennesaw State 7 @ Louisiana Tech 9 (6-6)

OFF TOPIC Downtown Airbnb

I know some people are looking for places to stay when coming in town for Tech events. We just finished up an Airbnb in downtown that is now available to rent.

Its in the old check in room of Rogers Furniture (215 W Miss). Great location that is within walking distance to campus and all the downtown restaurants.

MBB RECRUITING Few Guys of Interest - 4.9.2024

Here are a few guys that I believe Tech has some legitimate interest in out of the JC/Portal ranks.

From a recruiting standpoint, we are currently in a dead period until April 11th. So no visits right now, and there is also another dead period from April 15-18.

F Sean Elkinton - 6'8, transfer from St. Edward's - Elkinton has a Tech offer and tells me that he would like to visit.

F Kobe Julien - 6'6, transfer from UL-Lafayette

F Luke Anderson - 6'7, transfer from Florida Southern

F Jackson Moni - 6'10, transfer from Northern State

G/F Jahni Summers - 6'6, JC kid from Coffeyville CC

F Jalen DeLoach - 6'9, transfer from Georgia

F Rob Jennings - 6'7, transfer from Texas Tech

G Glenn Taylor - 6'6, transfer from St. John's

I'll add to the list as I hear more names. With Crawford & Batcho going through the draft process, this roster process could take some time. The deadline to pull out of the NBA Draft is May 29.

FOOTBALL Some News to “Report”

This morning I arrived at practice - early, as usual.

Just before the second period started, Coach Cumbie called me over to where the entire offense / offensive coaching staff (outside of Nathan Young) was gathered. After asking me to introduce myself and tell the offense what I did, I explained that I covered recruiting, radio show, postgame show, etc. As I spoke, he interrupted me to demand that I "look them in the eyes when I talk". When I was finished, he proceeded to tell me that I wasn’t supportive enough to be given further access to the program, kicked me out, and told me that I was no longer welcome at practice except during open media portions (which hasn’t occurred since fall camp).

I've been doing this for a long time. And I've been a Tech fan since I was born. Truthfully, it is very difficult at times to remove my very biased "fan" hat in favor of my un-biased "journalist" one. Plus, if you've been following what we do here for any amount of time, you know that I am often laughed at for my "homer-ism." I will find any reason possible to see a silver lining with this program. But one thing I will not do is fail to give this board, our members, and our listeners an accurate assessment of how I think things stand in all our athletic programs.

Tune in tonight for BTB Radio at 6 PM on Sportstalk 97.7 for more.

BASEBALL Lane Burroughs speaks w/ the Media - 5.1.2024

Lane Burroughs spoke w/ the media on Wednesday.

- Nine games left. All conference games. We've taken care of our business in midweeks and put ourselves in a position to win our league. We don't want to get too far ahead of ourselves, no one on our team has ever been to New Mexico State except Coach Fouts. Heard a lot about it, but it's a high scoring place to play. They can really hit, lead our league in hitting. They win on the road more than they do at home.
- Proud of our guys right now. 7 straight midweek wins. Ever since Arizona we are playing really good. Lot of baseball left to be played, but we've put ourselves in a spot to make a run.
- Arizona ballpark could compare to New Mexico State, but I've never been there. Thursday practice can be generic on the road, like a shoot around, but we need to work hard on Thursday night. Play on their turf in the infield, it plays fast. We need to figure out our surroundings. It'll be ultra important. We'll get on the bus at 5:30 tonight, head to Dallas and get up for an early flight Thursday. When you are playing good and having fun, it makes the tough things a lot easier.
- Hubka came in Tuesday, cleaned it up. Finished the next inning. No more midweeks, straight up if we have issues on the weekend we won't have hesitation in moving Hubka to the rotation. He's ultra competitive and we know what we are going to get from him. He's going to throw strikes w/ 2-3 pitches. Grant will get stronger the longer he's in the game. Connor can start too. Reed & Luke are throwing it well, Turner didn't last week. But with no midweeks we can throw someone else in there. Grant doesn't get the attention of Sam & Ethan, but I don't know where we'd be without him.
- I don't think Logan will be back this weekend, probably needs another week. Comeaux has been so good at 3B, he's been good on defense. When Logan does come back, we'll have to make a decision. We have been really good with the group we are running out there right now.
- Expectations for Cole this year? Thought he might start slow, but he kept practicing all of last year and got stronger. In the fall he didn't miss a beat, he's a run producer. He puts up numbers. He is striking out too much, he'll tell you that. But when you are driving it out of the park, you can live with that. I'm not surprised with what he's done. He's playing hurt, he hasn't taken BP or practiced in 3 weeks. We are trying to keep him rested and ready for games. He won't hit today, might on Thursday. We just need to keep him healthy and fresh. He can really barrel the baseball, you can't teach that. He has that skill. He's a really good player.
- Cole is very strong, works hard in weight room. He's got bat speed. Velo doesn't bother him. If he makes contact, hit the opponents bomb the other night. He pimped it some, just so strong. It gets lost, but he works so hard. That's probably why he's banged up some, you have to get him out of the cage at times.
- Emergence has surprised us some this year, only faced one hitter last year. Had a good fall, went home for Christmas and got his appendix out. Got back, couldn't do much. Nation has been a surprise. He just wanted a chance, I roomed with his dad. He's work so hard and made himself into a good college arm. Even though the numbers Sam put up, I don't know if we ever expected him to be this good. We knew we'd be pretty good on offense, Comeaux has been a little better than we expected maybe. The difference this year is we've gotten better starting pitching and we have some real bullets in the bullpen.

BASEBALL D1 Baseball - Postseason Stock Report - Week 12

Conference USA (2 bids)

SAFELY IN: Dallas Baptist, Louisiana Tech

ON THE BUBBLE (IN): None

ON THE BUBBLE (OUT): Western Kentucky

No change from last week.

louisiana tech logo

western kentucky logo

Louisiana Tech has joined DBU in the “safely in” category by winning eight of its last nine games since getting swept at Arizona, highlighted by a road series win at DBU. The Bulldogs are currently No. 42 in the RPI and 11-4 in conference, which feels like a sufficient combination for an at-large spot. They must win six of their final nine to remain in the top 45, and we think that is doable, even though it includes a series against first-place Western Kentucky — in Ruston. The Hilltoppers, meanwhile, are hanging on the outskirts of the race due to a No. 87 RPI, and the schedule ahead will not offer them a chance to get that RPI into at-large territory, despite the road set at La Tech. For what it’s worth, the DSR does not provide any relief for the Toppers, who rank No. 82 in that metric.
