Lane Burroughs spoke w/ the media on Wednesday.
- Nine games left. All conference games. We've taken care of our business in midweeks and put ourselves in a position to win our league. We don't want to get too far ahead of ourselves, no one on our team has ever been to New Mexico State except Coach Fouts. Heard a lot about it, but it's a high scoring place to play. They can really hit, lead our league in hitting. They win on the road more than they do at home.
- Proud of our guys right now. 7 straight midweek wins. Ever since Arizona we are playing really good. Lot of baseball left to be played, but we've put ourselves in a spot to make a run.
- Arizona ballpark could compare to New Mexico State, but I've never been there. Thursday practice can be generic on the road, like a shoot around, but we need to work hard on Thursday night. Play on their turf in the infield, it plays fast. We need to figure out our surroundings. It'll be ultra important. We'll get on the bus at 5:30 tonight, head to Dallas and get up for an early flight Thursday. When you are playing good and having fun, it makes the tough things a lot easier.
- Hubka came in Tuesday, cleaned it up. Finished the next inning. No more midweeks, straight up if we have issues on the weekend we won't have hesitation in moving Hubka to the rotation. He's ultra competitive and we know what we are going to get from him. He's going to throw strikes w/ 2-3 pitches. Grant will get stronger the longer he's in the game. Connor can start too. Reed & Luke are throwing it well, Turner didn't last week. But with no midweeks we can throw someone else in there. Grant doesn't get the attention of Sam & Ethan, but I don't know where we'd be without him.
- I don't think Logan will be back this weekend, probably needs another week. Comeaux has been so good at 3B, he's been good on defense. When Logan does come back, we'll have to make a decision. We have been really good with the group we are running out there right now.
- Expectations for Cole this year? Thought he might start slow, but he kept practicing all of last year and got stronger. In the fall he didn't miss a beat, he's a run producer. He puts up numbers. He is striking out too much, he'll tell you that. But when you are driving it out of the park, you can live with that. I'm not surprised with what he's done. He's playing hurt, he hasn't taken BP or practiced in 3 weeks. We are trying to keep him rested and ready for games. He won't hit today, might on Thursday. We just need to keep him healthy and fresh. He can really barrel the baseball, you can't teach that. He has that skill. He's a really good player.
- Cole is very strong, works hard in weight room. He's got bat speed. Velo doesn't bother him. If he makes contact, hit the opponents bomb the other night. He pimped it some, just so strong. It gets lost, but he works so hard. That's probably why he's banged up some, you have to get him out of the cage at times.
- Emergence has surprised us some this year, only faced one hitter last year. Had a good fall, went home for Christmas and got his appendix out. Got back, couldn't do much. Nation has been a surprise. He just wanted a chance, I roomed with his dad. He's work so hard and made himself into a good college arm. Even though the numbers Sam put up, I don't know if we ever expected him to be this good. We knew we'd be pretty good on offense, Comeaux has been a little better than we expected maybe. The difference this year is we've gotten better starting pitching and we have some real bullets in the bullpen.
