BASKETBALL GAME THREAD | Dunkin’ Dogs vs Dallas Christian

Louisiana Tech will host Dallas Christian in the final non-conference game of the regular season on Wednesday night.

Tipoff is scheduled for 6 PM on ESPN+/KXKZ 107.5 FM.

Dallas Christian is not very good, so Tech should be able to empty the bench and cruise.

BASKETBALL GAME THREAD | Dunkin' Dogs vs Grand Canyon

Big non-conference match-up for the Dunkin' Dogs at Grand Canyon on Saturday night.

Tipoff scheduled for 7 PM on ESPN+/KXKZ 107.5 FM.

Notes on Grand Canyon:
  • Grand Canyon is ranked 61st in KenPom, Tech is at 89. Two Top 100 teams going at it in the desert.
  • The Antelopes rank 50th in offensive efficiency, and 82nd in defensive efficiency. Really good club.
  • They rank 11th in the country in offensive rebounding. They’ll rebound 38% of their misses.
  • They rank 230th in turnover % and 238th in 3-point FG % if you’re looking for a weakness.
  • Tyon Grant-Foster is averaging nearly 21 points per game. He’s not a great shooter, but he takes 8.5 free throws per game. Have to keep him off the line. He’s 6’7, will be interesting to see who Tech tries to guard him with.
  • Jovon Blacksher Jr. is a STUD at a G spot. He’s only played in 3 games because he’s coming back from a knee injury suffered last season, but he played 21 minutes on Wednesday against Bethesda. Was the WAC Preseason POY in 22-23.
  • Ray Harrison is very inefficient as a scorer, but he’s scoring 14.1 PPG. He gets to the FT line nearly 6 times a game.
  • Gabe McGlothan is another tough matchup. He’s 6’7, averaging 13 & 8 + he shoots 37% from 3. KenPom has him as a Top 75 player in the country when it comes to offensive efficiency.
Notes on LA Tech:
  • Tech fell 79-73 in OT at Seattle in its last contest on December 20th.
  • In the defeat, Daniel Batcho had a career-high 24 points and career-high 16 rebounds. He also had 8 turnovers. Batcho had only had 8 turnovers all season prior to the game at Seattle.
  • Terri Miller isn't playing a ton of minutes yet, but he's getting 29.9% of the possessions when he is in. That would rank in the Top 60 nationally. Its no secret, when he's in the game the offense will run through him.
  • After a DNP at Seattle, it'll be interesting to see if Devin Ree gets minutes again the Antelopes.
  • Grand Canyon will matchup pretty well with Tech's length, can Tech still defend at a high level? It'll determine the outcome of the game.
  • Offensively, who steps up in the scoring column behind Iso and Batcho?

Let's gooooooo!!!!

BASKETBALL Dunkin' Dogs Weekly Update - 12.31.2023

If Tech is going to continue to dominate the paint, they must clean up their issues when it comes to defending the 3.

The Bulldogs allowed opponents to shoot 48% from 3 on the road trip. Too good of a defensive team to let that continue.

OFF TOPIC Happy Festivus!

Welcome, everyone. The tradition of Festivus begins with the airing of grievances. I got a lot of gripes with everyone this year, and you're all gonna hear about it.

  1. LucasFilm and Disney successfully killed the Indiana Jones franchise this year with Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny. They could've had Indiana Jones become like his father Henry Jones, Sr. (not as strong or fast as he used to be, but still intelligent, wise, and capable). They instead turned Indy into a sad sack in an overly-long movie.
  2. Why do the men's restrooms at the East Side of Joe Aillet Stadium still look like they have gloryholes large enough for the Incredible Hulk to use?
  3. Why did Trader's Joe stop selling Smores? Now I have to put forth effort to buy Graham Crackers, chocolate, and marshmallows; assemble them; nuke them; and then eat them.
  4. I can't believe Johnny's Pizza still isn't in the Little Rock area.
  5. Whose leg do I have to hump to find Borden's Chocolate Milk in Little Rock?
  6. Can Hollywood please take a break from superhero movies for a few years? (caveat: This does not apply to Deadpool 3)
  7. Ron DeSantis' Presidential campaign is horrible. I haven't seen something crash and burn like that since Mark Zuckerberg introduced Threads.
  8. Did Covid break drivers' brains? I swear that drivers in general got much worse once Covid hit.

NCAA NCAA Considering New Transfer Rules

The jist:
- Abolishing the requirement to sit a year
- Increasing the academic requirement from 6 to 9 credit hours
- Tying NCAA revenue to academic performance
- Any player that enter this Fall (current) portal window is eligible next year. This is not confirmed for the Spring portal.

Thoughts? It’s basically removing the requirement to sit but doubling down on APR / academics.

I need to think about it more. I’m a free market guy so I get empowering the players and all, but roster construction is impossible.
