-So what is Tech selling and what is leading to all this success on the recruiting trail? The two main things that Tech is selling is the family atmosphere and the knowing that you’ll win if you come to Tech. Holtz said from the get-go, he would build this program for the long term. The fruits of that labor is showing up significantly right now. Of course there are more things that Tech sells, different to each kid, but these are the main two things that I hear from kids.
-As far as taking kids that are more “projections,” that is life at the G5 level. There is a level of belief that if you sign great athletes, with great attitudes, who want to be great, a different position is not a huge projection. Most kids aren’t talk great technique until they get to college anyways. With the health of the program, Tech isn’t relying on kids to be truly ready until their third year on campus in most cases. Tech is still signing plenty of players that aren’t projections that are ready to come in and contribute early.
-I’ll think the new RS rule is going to greatly benefit G5 programs. Tech redshirted 100% of its class last season, that will benefit them in the long run.
